I've just been through this exact same issue with Admiral. Wasn't quite that big a hike though. In the end I've managed to get a better deal than I had last year but at the outset they jumped the cost on all 3 of my cars.
I think they're trying it on this year, more than most.

Unbelievable - I am a great believer in changing insurers when the renewal is not a fair increase even if they are ultimately willing to price match. If they are trying it on then they can sod off.

And that's not just talk - I have switched on principle several times.

I'm not loyal to anyone either but in the end I couldn't get a better price elsewhere. The only principal I work on is who's cheapest in the end.

That does seem like a ridiculous increase. Mine went up £230 this year (likewise, no changes to policy, no claims made etc), but one quick phonecall and a little moan later and they reduced it to £45 less than I paid last year.

Good luck negotiating your renewal.....let us know how you get on.

We always shop around if the increase is unreasonable too, they obviously don't want your custom though as that is enough of an increase to scare anyone off.

Afraid its my fault :crying_anim02:

Couple of months back I reversed out into the neighbours car, I only thought I had grazed the back bumper but by the size of the repair qoute I wrote off his fr#gging piece of cr@p Audi.

Since then Boxster insurance throughout the UK has doubled, sorry. :suicide_anim:

Admiral yhave just hiked my mulitcar policy (Merc A class and 2.7 Boxster) to over £1400. They advised me to shop around and come back to them with the best quotes for each car independantly which I did and they couldn't quote within £600 of the combined cost. I've cancelled my policy and gone elsewhere on both cars.

I had a quote at the end of May from one company (Renew). Called them back in June to take the policy out, as I'd not found anything cheaper and they informed me the price had dropped. I asked why, the guy said the price changes on a month by month basis and for me, it had dropped. I wasn't going to argue. :)

My 'Porsche Insurance' since ownership has had only moderate rises ie £735, £765 (bumped down to £665 when asked) and this year so far is £755...

working in the insurance industry (as well as other financial bits) I can tell you that the majority of insurers (buildings, contents, breakdown, car etc) run their business on the basis that they give big introductory discounts in the first year knowing that most people dont shop around every year...

the business model will eventually fail of you ask me....and stinks anyway,,,why they dont look after the customers already with them I never understand (on the basis it costs more to attract a new one than keep an existing one).

If everyone shopped around I am sure they couldnt afford to continualy give the same initial premium basis and we'd all end up paying something in between their intro and ongoing prices...

In life the cheapest isnt the best, nor is the most expensive.... :suicide_anim:

We had a 3 car policy with Admiral, and they hiked the price up considerably this year - about £600 in all and we had no changes to our circumstances.
I did some sleuthing, and got my Boxster and Fiat Coupe down (they were the cheapest of anyone for the Box individually, and for the Coupe, they weren't bad, so I kept both as they allow a no claims discount on both cars, where in most cases it would only apply to one).

We had my GF's car on the policy though, and this year they were really uncompetitive on hers, so we went elsewhere for car number 3!

Seemed an industry wide price hike.

ecarinsurance just tried to nearly double our premium on the VXR8 and BMW325. £650 (pro-rata) for the pair last year, and they wanted £1217 this year - (now 7 years since the last claim and 4 years since the last conviction).

Admiral offered a multicar policy for £870, but Morethan are covering the VXR8 for £450 (not bad for G20). It gives me plenty to play with for the BMW or I'll just chop and change with the Ka policy as I need to use those vehicles.
