its just to impractical ,but i want to keep it !
theres 2 solutions I sell it and buy a bmw coupe
or i get another car ,a run about that i can take to b&q or fishing ,and work when the weathers cr*p
but insurance is the issue ,my no cliams which is 9yrs is tied up in the boxster and I cant mirror my no cliams on another
car because I had a fault claim 2 years ago
now to insure say a 2001 306 hdi would be about 800quid and thats just too much ,same for say a 2002 td4 freelander (800)
I live in manchester (chorlton) and its a high insurance area but i am 41yrs old
or maybe a could get a mk2 golf gti and put it on classic but then its an old car and i want a runabout
now ive put this thread in the main forum because its not just about insurance
suggestions greatly appreicated

i found it the best compromise (getting a hack) but don't go too low as its probably the car you'll use the most!

cheap in everyway and totally diy servicable
cheapest insurance quote ive had though was 653 quid and that was a pug 206 1.1lx ,and i dont even like em lol
its all about getting the insurance cheap i dont mind spending 2k on the car but not nearly half that again on insurance

limited mileage might help too.
one thing to note, you will likely find there's not a great deal of difference when you go below a certain level as they will take your history into account so don't necessarily focus on really old/junky cars. for example i had a saab with a v6 engine - 15 years old. the insurance wasn't much off the boxster (i'm 37). the saab was worth the same as a sports steering wheel.

I sorta wanted a 2001 306 hdi meridian as a runabout car as ive had one before and it was extremely cheap to run and fix ,very reliable, and theres loads about so theres choice and good ones left

1. Add a female to the insurance on both policies (lower risk).
2. Or female insures one with you as named driver and visa versa. Aviva (then NU) mirrored my NCB for my wife who had none).
3. Do not insure for business use (including commuting) if you don't need it.
4. Limit miles on both policies (say 8k daily, 4k Boxster)
5. Play with the excess amount to get a good balance between savings and risk for both cars.
6. Barter for a two car discount though the same insurers.
7. Can you get one or both off the street (better still in a garage) for a discount. Rent (or parhaps swap for lawn mowing?) a non driving neighbours drive/garage?
8. Make sure second car is mundane. Japanese have good reliability eg Honda Jazz to keep running costs down.
Good luck.

lol female free household though ! lol
I'd need defo need commuting on both policies
miles? well ive done 6k in 6months work is 4 miles away but i quite often cycle to work
i have a 2 car drive plus a garage so the boxsters allway garaged any other car will be on the drive
second car well from group 1 to about 14 its really doesnt impact on the price that much its the fact i have no no claims as its all used on the boxster and i cant mirror the no claims bonus because i had a fault cliam( which i have to say wasnt my bloody fault it was some burke in a car park but my insurance admitted fault for me ! which made me very angry indeed)

I bet you'll be supprised! yeah you'll shell out more for the car but it will cost you half as much to insure, put petrol in and tax :)

My view is that you can put up with something a bit boring if you also have a Boxster, you can then depreciate that with winter driving & long journeys etc. Also you wont have the hassle / loss involved in selling your Boxster.
Try admiral multicar (online) can work out very much cheaper than seperate policy's if you put high excess and only have low mileage, they dont seem to hit you so hard for lack of NCB on your second car.

Multicar would be best,or classic car you don't need NCB!
