Tracker required?

Had an interesting chat with some of the guys from the forum on Sunday, about insurance.

For both my cars my then insurance company insisted on trackers being fitted. I contacted the insurance arranged via Porsche and arranged insurance without a tracker. I have a cayenne and a 981S.

Has anybody else had this or have you found a number of companies are ok for such cars without trackers?

My postcode is not a high risk area, I checked.

I was only asked if I would agree to a tracker when I got a quote. I said no. I did not even wish to see what the premium reduction might be. In my opinion, it's another 'tool' to cross check on annual mileage etc in order to 'reduce their risk'. Otherwise known as reducing the payment to you in the event of an accident.

When getting quotes I told the companies that one was already fitted but not subscribed too, I was told on average it would make about £50 in reduced costs but its £100+to activate plus a subscription so there's not much of a incentive to actually do it.

I've come across a request to fit a tracker a few times but usually managed to get a better deal elsewhere without.

The only exception was when I ran a GT3 which no one would cover without one being fitted.

I have the Porsche one fitted (Cobra if I recall).

I have to say it's a PITA and I pay £200 a year for it. Unlike other trackers you have to carry a card with you and I've had a few false alarms with it as I've accidentally covered the card with a phone or keys in my pocket.

I shall be looking at renewal for prices without a tracker.
