Putting the record straight.

I just had to get this off my chest and put the record straight.

When I introduced myself in the newbie lounge I mentioned how cheap the insurance was for the Boxster I am waiting to take delivery on. At that point I had only had the figure as a quote from Churchill. Yesterday I tried to place the order with Churchill, and they said I couldn’t proceed with the policy because I needed a minimum of two years no claim before they would even consider insuring the Boxster. It was essential to sort it out quickly, so I ended up transferring my no claims to the new policy at the quoted figure of £160 for the Boxster Insurance and re-insuring my Lexus on a new policy. In addition to the £160 for the Boxster, I had to pay a £60 fee for a new policy taking my Lexus up to the original expiry date. I asked what the renewal would be for the Lexus when the insurance expires in March this year and the advisor told me £600.

I’m covered now for both cars, but upon renewal for the Lexus Insurance in March, I will be using another insurance company I found through a search engine offering a new comprehensive policy on the Lexus at £230.00.

For future record make a note of A-Plan's number posted on here somewhere. More often than not they have bettered quotes from elsewhere. I pay less and less for my insurance each year!

I went with churchill and they said exactly the same, need 2 years no claims. But seeing as my van and the wife's car was insured through them they would waive the two years bit which was fine but meant the years insurance was £300 ish in the end, pretty much the same as a classic insurance but with not as many stipulations

And I also tried A plan and they couldn't quite match the price

I tried a number of insurers when I bought mine last April.

I think it was A-Plan who advertise track cover, but then won't cover for my local track... or track days which aren't operated under the ATDO umbrella - which ruled out my strictly controlled charity days, which are safer than any other day I've been on...

Then there were the specialist Porsche insurers who wouldn't insure me unless I had at least 1 year experience of a similar car.

Really wound me up, as I've been driving for 16 years without a single claim - and my Alfa 75 is much more likely to get me into trouble than the Boxster!

I too had to do the same-

the work car (the estate) i have full protected no claims etc-was cheaper to insure @ £165 fully comp and start a new policy for the Boxster which was £580 @ the ripe age of 46,i tried several multi car policys which were so damn expensive, some coming out at over a grand! i kept my X on it as it lowered the premium a tad,my mrs cant get insured on it unless i stump up £1200 because she reversed into a car in Oct! :(

This tosh about the NCD only applying to one car is b*ll*cks. Is it the car that hasn't made a claim or is it the driver? More unjustified and inexplicable b*ll*cks from the insurance companies.

Some insurance companies used to mirror the NCB earnt on a first car. Perhaps they still do? Some year ago now Mrs B, who had been a named driver on my second car for years, had my NCB mirrored when she took over as the principal driver of that car.

With a phone call to Churchill, to negotiate renewing the insurance on my Lexus, I have managed to obtain the exact cover I had previously, excluding protected no claims bonus, for the sum of £150. Pretty happy with the outcome for this year, and next year, providing I don’t make a claim, I will have no claims to use on the renewal.
