Early Boxster on classic insurance?

Recommended Posts

Some of the earliest cars will be coming up for 19 years old now so is this possible and is anyone doing it?

I'm 48 and run a 20 year old Eunos Roadster (imported MX5) on a classic policy and can get several reasonable quotes to choose from. Some companies advertising on the forums seem to specialise in this.

My car isn't a daily driver it's just for fun, no commuting and low miles, your recommendations of places to try would be appreciated.

Thanks, I thought this might be a bit of a grey area, the Boxster being classed as a 'future classic' maybe..

I should add I'm with Adrian Flux (not recommended) who put my classic policy up 41% last year for no reason whatsoever, I shopped around but they had all gone up a similar amount, again no reason. Nothing about me or the car has changed at all.

Many of these companies give you no NCD accumulating on these classic policies so as you say maybe it's not the way to go on a Boxster?

Mine was on a modern classic policy with r&h insurance for a few years. They will take any porsche over ten years old. The policy was cheap, less than £300 but it had restrictions on mileage 5k and on the car being garaged between midnight and six iirrc. Also it accrued no no claims.

Moved this year to admiral multi car as it worked out cheaper in total and is easier for me to admin all the policies in one place.

@RobinM - just go to an aggregator site like go compare. I think you'll be surprised how cheap a fully comp, restricted mileage quote is.

I pay around £200 for <5000 miles full protected NCB and zero voluntary excess

Classic line insurance will likely cover a Boxster. I know they will cover a 996 Turbo

Hi All

I am running a 2001 986 2.7 which is insured on a 'normal' fully comp policy with no mileage limits and accrues NCB for £258. I just called a broker and that was the deal on the day! Very happy with that as it is less than I was paying for an MX5!

Mines £360 but that's with one years no claims, got 9 years no claims on a vehicle that's just been sold,so I may swap over the policy to get the full discount so it will bring the price down to what some of you guys are paying,

^ Yes I'm thinking this too.. I live in LE65 (NW Leicestershire) and it's a low crime area, I bet it'd be astronomical if I lived somewhere like B6 or central Leeds and parked on the street, it is a big factor.

Thanks for your insight everyone, I have a clean record, 10+ years NCD (and I'm old) so I'll have a good try with the compare sites with restricted mileage/no commuting instead of going down the classic route.

All of the stuff they load on to make money will be unticked as well, protected no claims, courtesy car, legal cover..

Oi what's wrong with central Leeds :axehead::mad::ninja:

Just been quoted £250 full NDC protected no claims 10k pa for north Leeds, with SAGA must be a sign of the times!

Classic Line cover both my 993 and BGTS, by far the cheapest cover I could find for the two cars ;-)

I used Peter best insurance on my 1999 Mercedes, as they deem anything over 15 y/o as classic.

No direct comparison but the policy was £250pa, no no claims bonus BUT- I just got insured with elephant (as I have no garage so I can’t have a classic policy any more), and I asked Peter Best for a letter stating I made no claims which they happily provided- seemed to be normal practice to them, and then this ‘NCB’ letter was accepted by elephant as part of my total NCB history (prev 2 years with ‘ncb’ letters from Peter best).

Hope that makes sense and is of some use to someone..

Beers. HH
