718 GTS announced

Recommended Posts

Cayman 718 GTS Official Launch
Porsche has officially announced the release of the new 718 GTS models.

As we reported earlier this month, the new Cayman GTS will be powered by the same 4 cylinder turbo charged engine in the S model with a slight increase in both power and torque (360bhp and 317lbft respectively). The increased power compared with the existing 718 S has been achieved via a revised intake system and turbocharger tweaks

The 718 Cayman GTS costs from £59,866 and the new car is available to order now, with the first deliveries in December.

The car will come standard with a manual gearbox.  Other standard equipment includes a Sport Chrono Package, torque vectoring with a mechanical limited-slip differential and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which reduces the ride height by 10mm.

The maximum torque of 317lb ft is available from 1,900 to 5,000rpm. With the PDK gearbox and the launch control function of the Sport Chrono Package, the 718 GTS can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.1sec.

The Cayman GTS will have a maximum speed of 180mph. The EU Combined economy is 34.4mpg, with 186g/km of CO2 emissions.

The GTS notable differentiating external features are a revised front end, with black-tinted lenses over the Bi-Xenon LED headlights. At the rear, the black theme is continued on the lights and badging, with black exhaust tailpipes. The customary black GTS logos feature either side.

In keeping with the usual GTS appointments there are Alcantara sections on the seats, which are electrically adjustable, along with Alcantara on the steering wheel rim, centre console and armrests.

Accompanying the Cayman GTS will be a Boxster GTS and both cars are available to order in PDK dual clutch transmission.

Looks very nice, with the usual GTS package being good value compared to optioning an S, but it's still a 4 cylinder turbo.

Will be interesting to see if Autocar's speculation is accurate. I think they've either got it right or there won't be a 718 GT4/Spyder. The other possibility is that they pluck the engine from the 991.2 Carrera S, ie a 6 cylinder 3l turbo.

Stunning car and good value bearing in mind how much the GTS hold its value.

The GTS version is now quicker 0-60 than the 911 Carrera (only a stat I know).

Looks very nice but I chose to go the 981 route due to its superior aural performance. Next step for me if funds allowed would be 911 Coupe or Targa GTS.

I also went 981 route but s not gts as prices were silly when i bought at beginning of this year. With the price of the new 718s at 58k I wonder what will happen to 981 GTS prices?

This article suggests it will have a detuned version of the 4.0 from the 911 https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/next-porsche-cayman-gt4-stick-naturally-aspirated-flat-six

May 2017; "“At Motorsport, we think we can achieve throttle response and immediacy a little bit better with an atmospheric highrevving engine than any kind of turbo.” He also confirmed there are no plans to create any four-cylinder GT cars."

Oct 2017; 4 cyl GTS announced.

Not sure I'd take his news as gospel.

A quote from Andreas Preuninger himself, so should be reliable.

I just specced up a similar one to my 981 GTS and it came to about £71K which I don`t think is actually too bad.

Why is it you can have a sunroof on a 911 coupe but not on a Caymen ?

TBH I think I would buy a 2nd hand (991) 911 rather than a new 718 GTS (B or C) if it was £71000...

although if you look for a Porsche approved one it could well have a large chunk of mileage on it and be 3-4 years old (dang them 911's are premium!)

I had this scenario when i bought my car, i could have had a 4 year old 911 convertible 25k on the clock for the same money.

Tell me about it. I’ve been going from 981 to 997 to 991 in my head and the price point jumps by £20K for each increment.

The trouble is whenever I look at a 911 convertible, much as I want a 911, I can’t get away from it’s fat ar*e!   I think it’s going to have to be another Boxster - they just look right as a convertible.

I do really like the Targa - 991 Targa GTS - yes please! I was looking at a 997 Targa recently - I might go and have a look, but I quite fancy the more modern interior of a 981/991 and the 991 Targa is a tad more than I want to spend right now ?

I have always wanted a 911 but when I looked properly at the convertible the Boxster 981 just looked better IMO so I went for that.

I also think the cayman GT4 981 is better looking than the 911 so if I could afford a 911 it would be a tough choice between the two!
