Airbag deactivation oxfordshire

Recommended Posts

Hi

I want to take my 2 year old daughter out in the Boxster occasionally and so am looking into airbag deactivation (and whether I am effectively supposed to do this with a forward facing seat).

Assuming I buy the switch or the bar, does anybody know of anywhere round Oxford/Oxfordshire that can do the coding? I asked my local indie but they were not able to do it.

Thanks in advance

I've got some device under the passenger seat of my 986 that deactivated the airbag or bypassed it. Not quite what as I've not looked into it though I have the paperwork in the folder. If I get round to removing it next week you're welcome to it ??

That would be amazing but I believe that it still needs deactivating in the ECU (Porsche are never going to miss out on the opportunity for a quick buck).

If you do remove it, please let me know and I'll happily buy it off you

I'm not actually sure what was done, as the previous owner had done it. I'll look through the paperwork and see what it's all about ??

The above will do what you want. Does exactly what the Porsche bar does. You will need the ECU coding done - any specialist with PIWIS software can do that.  I can’t see a listing from the guy who makes these, the one above is a second hand one.

Not fully sure that the 986 bar does the 987.

It's actually the piwis deactivation I'm interested in but thanks for all the replies. I'll call around a few other places and see if they can do it

Porschacare did my coding. They are based in Hertfordshire though so may be a bit too far away.

@Lennym1984  If you don't mind a run to Maidenhead, I would be happy to code it for you.  Or try Wrightune in Wallingford.  If they um and ahh, ask them to call me.

@golfprorich If you have the Porsche deactivation bar, you'll need to get the airbag control unit "uncoded" if you remove it.

@golfprorich

That would be amazing if it isn't too inconvenient. I would be happy to pay or supply wine for your troubles

That's what I have on mine.

As @Richard Hamilton kindly pointed out if I remove it I'll need to get it recoded

My dad is a retired electronics engineer so he is building me one of these switches over the weekend (he was pleased that, "of all the things you have asked me to build, this is the easiest").

It was the Piwis coding that I was struggling with. The garage I usually use seemed either unsure or unkeen to do it

Drop me a PM when you want it done, and we'll work something out.

Undoubtedly a stupid question but when looking for the connector for the switch my dad will build (he wants to know what size/type connector to fit) I have been unable to locate it. I've looked under the passenger seat of my 98 986 but there is no obvious spare connector. Any clues? Might it have been tucked under the carpet? I had the seats out a few weeks ago and didn't notice anything then

Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the instructions for fitting the deactivation bar, which shows the location of the connector, when I get to my PC in the morning.

This is the article from pelican parts on fitting the factory child seat bar and activating CHILD SEAT OCCUPANCY setting.

https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/96-MISC-Child_Seat/96-MISC-Child_Seat.htm

You can get a delete switch from ebay at about £55 new and don't need the de-activation bar and bolts but will still need the coding done to activate CHILD SEAT OCCUPANCY

Used one on sale at the moment with no bids, 12 hours to go here

Get your dad to view this as it will save a shed load of work. Someone has already made one at home which is what the guy on UK Ebay did. Still needs the coding done if it is isn't already activated

The switch itself was incredibly easy to make (4 resistors and a switch), it was the coding I was having difficulty with. Thankfully, somebody on here has very kindly offered to help

For anyone else interested, I had this supplied and fitted to mine by Eporsch in Bisley. Total cost was around £250 I think, maybe less, for the installation and coding.

Thread revival, is there a reason I can’t see any of these ‘deactivation switches’ on eBay anymore? I have tried many different searches.

Are there perhaps no new ones being made?

Cant really answer this.  But a question. Why does the ECU need changes to it? Surely Porsche must have anticipated that owners would want to have a car seat/child in the boxster only some of the time,  not permanently ( I know you could reverse it but its not a quick,  in a whim thing to do)

Yeah, it’s simple with the correct software, just tick it untick a box. I’m now worried about that side, know more than one person that can do it for me.

Just need the hardware and not the bar If possible. I see some chaps make their own:
