Stunned - in a good way

Recommended Posts

Admiral multicar policy with VW Jetta 1.6tdi Bluemotion, BMW 535d M-Sport, the policy renewal date is August 2019 so any additional car runs from nowish till then, so not a full year.

Hadn't moved the Boxster onto the multicar yet cos renewal hadn't come around, have ten years protected no claims, added legal claims service, car is kept in a garage and only about 6,000 miles a year.

Current insurers sent renewal doc with £489 but over the page that grew to £531 with add on Legal Expenses, this sort of figure is kinda what was expecting.

Ten mins on the phone to add third car, had to have him repeat it because first off I thought that was the legal expenses add on....

£81.98

Still shocked, I know it's only till next August, so not a full year... but I mean!!!

Stunned :-)

Cost me less than £4 a month to change from the GT86 to the Boxster on my Aviva multi car policy with my mini DD.

When I bought the mini and changed to Aviva I was paying less for it and the GT86 than I had been paying more than for the GT86 alone.

It will be correct lol, I could not believe it was only costing £48 a year more for a Porsche.

I did better than that in 2013 I moved from a £10000 987 2.7 with 245 bhp to a 981S worth near £60000 and 315 bhp and the premium went down £100 odd quid (even after the mid term admin fee) - so they refunded me when I switched car less than 2 months after renewal

I've just bought a 2005 987 and added it to my Aviva multicar policy.

I now have 5 cars on the policy:

- 2016 Audi TTS

- 2013 Merc 250 CLS Shooting Brake

- 2007 VW T5 2.5tdi campervan with pop top roof

- 2001 Merc 230 SLK

Total premium including legal cover, protected NCD and breakdown cover....£754!!!

I paid more than that 30 years ago for my insurance on a 1.1 Fiesta!

A year on with Admiral multicar, got even better, 535d £450, Boxster £227, but  best of all, gave the VW Jetta to daughter, 26 new driver, expecting in general around £1400 for her as had put details into that meerkat thing, got handed over to new business person, first attempt was £1900, explained at that rate I'll be looking elsewhere, she then realised I had 2 cars already with them, it appears if I become something like policy admin, despite her being 19 miles away, so different address, circumstances etc, earning own NCD, came back with £757, so have all 3 insured for roughly what was expecting to pay for her first year on the road, and yes I got her insurance docs but that's easy so give next time see her.

So after reading all this on the multi car , I gave Aviva a call , couldn't do a multi car online with more than 2 cars ,so had to call them as I wanted 3 cars and a van ,started with my daily a 2012 Hyundai I 40 estate , then added on 2004 boxster s then 1989 944s2 then my vito van .got to the boxster and was answering questions back and forth then she hits me with your excess for the boxster is £850 the Hyundai was £350 , I've tried admiral and they wouldn't do a car and van multi policy , so back to the original plan of separate policies , I'm with locktons for the boxster I'm gonna stick with them and add on the 944s2 if possible , I tried with the multi but failed .I'm 54 with clean licence and 1 claim 3 years ago ,break in on my van , 14 years NCD on 2 separate vehicles

I've done the multicar thing a my various times. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and it also depends on your willingness to make endless calls. In the more recent years I'm sure I could have got cheaper overall but didn't have the willpower to plough through more calls!

I now have a 2 car policy with Aviva on one policy but the 2 cars having different main drivers and both accruing NCB and both having different amounts. The Boxster I have an agreed value via Locktons and is only £375. If Aviva will do the same at a near £300 saving I'll go for it!

Might be worth giving A plan a go - but you need to speak to the specialist office  - mirrored the NCD on my Fiesta - so pay £300 a year on the Box and £330 on a 17 plate fiesta - paid an extra £42 for total loss cover on the box meaning if it was written off i would get an extra 25 % payout ( was way cheaper than gap insurance ) - that’s with cars being on driveway and 1 accident ( 4 k of damage taking out the back light of a merc - no damage to my car and only back light on his - a lease car that was going back - so you can see why the cost was stupid )

You could try LV. I have a Nissan Juke and my Boxster on for £297. 10 years no claim, and 2 main drivers. They were better than Aviva who hiked the policy by 30% to £447. When I queried this with their advert of not increasing price I was given the run around so just said cancel. They would not match LV price either.

Next chapter, have added younger daughter to Admiral multicar, her renewal was £469, joining my administered policy, £294, isn't a year of course as renewal is August, but even so....

I've tried many many times for multi car and multi bike policies without luck and still cant better my individual policies. I have 4 bikes (1 valued at 12k) and 3 cars including the Boxster for under £1000, I am 50 this year.

Admiral multi car here - five cars, 4 drivers, two kids (23 yr old twins) insured on their own and each others car, me and the mrs on all the cars, paid 1500 fully comp. - When we added the 5th car  few years ago (mrs got a little pug 107) they did some magic with ncd and the incremental cost for a 3 yr old 107 was £38 for the remaining 10 months. I tried Locktons for the Boxster but they weren't able to compete - would have been great for 5K - but I am not their target demographic because I put about 10K a year on the box.
