CR22 head unit problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all, had my Boxster a few months  now and have a reoccurring problem with the Porsche stereo, when switching the  ignition on and waiting for the oil level to display, the radio comes on as normal, when turning the key to start the engine the radio switches off and will not switch back on with the power button, it will then randomly come back to life. Has anyone else had a similar issue ? TIA Gareth.

Hi Gareth. The ignition switch on the 986 is known to cause intermittent various electrical problems.  If its original it may be worth replacing as a matter of course anyway to cut off any future problems at the pass.  Its an Audi part and should cost ~£30.  Don't buy a cheap one on the internet as they are cheap for a reason.

I had a similar issue, like it was an intermittent power issue. My CDR22 (the facelift version, it changed to fibre optic input from the amp) eventually died completely. I sourced a replacement refurbished until (unlocked) from here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/oem_car_audio?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.c10

It fixed the problem and it's been problem free since, indicating that it was a radio issue, not the ignition.

However, I'd agree to replacing the ignition switch as a matter of course as it's a much cheaper possible solution and should prevent other potential issues going forward.

Best of luck!
