Paint chips

Recommended Posts

I have, it was quite hard to get a perfect finish, I either ended up with too little or too much and the paint stood proud.  After a few attempts I got a reasonable result - not sure it will be up to the job of a chip as large as you note though!  The beauty of this is it can be easily removed with the included solvent if you don't like what you see - than have another go.  Worst case if you can't get it as you'd like you have only lost a bit of time and the cost of the kit...

Thanks for the reply. That was my thinking. Someone has poorly tried to repair it before so it looks bad, although no one really notices unless you take a real close look.

There's been lots of threads on this with many people finding it hard to get a good result. Personally i find best results from using the Loew Cornell Fine Line Pen which was recommended here some time back. I use a mix of base and lacqeur and find it's relatively easy to dab spots of paint into the chip until it's filled then follow with sanding etc. £10.24 on ebay. Various videos on youtube e.g.

I think with that many chips the sensible thing would be to get a bonnet respray, he'll be there for weeks

Do you have a link, I'd like to give it a go as I have a plethora of tiny chips and this seems like a great way of doing it over and above the OEM touch up pen Ive got.

Any UK suppliers, all seem to come from the US?

Ah, didn't realise the one i mentioned was from US too. Found this but needs to be ordered in https://www.sirstampalot.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=92186 . Looks like they're now hard to come by in UK otherwise.

That seems to be the same issue, they don't hold stock so will order from supplier which could take a further 3wks, will probably just order on eBay for a fiver plus £10 postage and wait a month.

I have just received this Loew-Cornell pen. What you use to clean those rock chip spots before applying the paint?

I use IPA (and not the beer type!).

I watched the video on the 911 and can't help thinking this is a job for the girl from the nail bar. Seriously though, nail artists (or whatever they're called) must use a similar tool which is likely to be readily available in the UK.

I've seen a couple or videos on YouTube and yep I would agree that somone with a careful set of hands would do well.
