Windscreen replacement - classed as a claim

Recommended Posts

We have an Astra as our family car. It's needing a new windscreen.

We're insured with Aviva. They don't consider claiming for a windscreen as a claim that would affect NCB. My question is, are there insurance companies out there that would class it as a standard claim therefore affecting subsequent premiums? I'm obviously a bit concerned for when we renew and possibly move company.

only a problem if you have to move from Aviva isn't it?

and in any case you can hardly leave the car with no windscreen! :worried:

I recently commented that on renewal of my insurance my windscreen replacement was noted as a claim. Doesn't appear to have affected my renewal costs but as it has now been noted I presumably need to declare it for the next 4 years.

A windscreen replacement counts as a claim. Not to be confused with NCD, but there are companies who do take it into consideration. Swift Cover (AXA) will suspend NCD for a year after a glass claim is made, for example.

Bloody insurance companies!

I wouldn't mind so much if they actually put a genuine screen in-place of what was broken. I care to wager you'd get some shonko aftermarket job. :/
