Personally manual for me but if your progressive illness is going to rob you of muscle strength then I can understand having a tip. The clutches on these cars can be heavy.

Interesting. How did you reach the lower bolt, did you remove the plenum too? What tool did you use to reach and undo the lower bolt?

Just a suggestion, consider swapping out the ignition switch whilst the dash it out!

Removing the starter motor is on my to do list (but not urgent) however this thread and the clips made me wonder how DIY it is for me. That lower bolt removal and replacement in particular, looks a right PITA and I don't (currently) have an 18" socket extension to tackle it from inside the cab! However it could perhaps be reached from the top with a very flexible extension 'bar'. To my surprise such a things exists; it has a bar like a spring. Does anyone know:
1. Whether the lower bolt can be reached from above or below?
2. Whether a flexible socket extension would work e.g. It's flexible enough and strong enough to handle the torque necessary?

Might have been a bit more maybe 15miles? All second and third gear. Smelt hot when I dropped it off but given the examiner had to rev it suggests it needed more.

Took the car for a second and third gear 10mile drive then dropped it off for its MoT. Passed 👍.
One advisory, slight exhaust leak. I asked where but examiner couldn't pin point it but explained that he had to rev it to get it through emissions which points to a leak. Lamda reading is on the limit.

How's the car actually running? What codes are you getting?
I had a running issue and CEL which a number (not Trooper) on here thought could be a variocam/actuator issue but turned out to be a defective AOS!

Had the passenger door card off to check the waterproof membrane as I've had a minor but irritating cabin leak. It was fully sealed at the bottom, r/h side and lower half of l/h side but a bit iffy elsewhere. Looked like some telltale water marks on the top of the inside of door card so I've assumed some water has been getting in at the top of the membrane. It won't now as resealed.

They don't occupy the same space; the glove box is below the airbag but the later airbag could be a different shape.

But....it is for a newer 986 and has a glove compartment. Correction - it has the space where a glove compartment should be.
Mine is a very old 986 (one of the first) so it doesn't have a glove compartment in the dashboard. Will this make a difference? I presume the dash will still fit (even if I have to put a few extra holes in somewhere) and I can just source the glovebox from a breaker's yard later on to complete the installation.
My understanding is the newer dash can be fitted to the earlier model. It was done by someone on here @topradio ? I think you get cup holders too with the newer dash.

Both great looking gadgets (want them both) but they wouldn't have worked for me trying to remove those ignition grub screws. Just not enough room and limited height above the grub screws. My hand blocked the very obstructed view of the grub screws. Anything in my hand expanding its size made the situation worse. I found a flat headed screw bit held between thumb and first finger was the way forward. I added the bit holder for some more purchase. My added issue was poor depth of field perception so I could not work out where the damn grub screws were even when I could see them!
The adapted screwdriver is an excellent idea - or one of those 'toy' screwdrivers from a Christmas cracker!

It doesn't create any more distance between pedals and seat but it does allow 'manspreading' with the knees either side of the steering wheel.

Spent this morning replacing the ignition switch. I used the side vent method. Theoretically a simple job, but I'm no contortionist and I'm recovering from laser treatment for tears to the retina, so reaching and seeing the grub screws at the back of the ignition barrel which hold the switch in place was almost impossible. After a couple of hours I was going to give up but had a coffee, calmed down and retackled it. It worked. I was finally able to locate the flat headed bit into the grub screw head and turn them. Had the same issues doing them back up again though but managed. Took nearly three hours! Satisfying result.

Sorry to learn that. That puts pay to a rematch! I'm still playing at least twice a week but age (and age related injury) is not helping ☹. I'm managing to hold onto a winter h/c of 18.8 and play lots of club competitions.
I won't take you on on a dirt bike!

Replaced the indicator / wiper / OBC stalks. Easy job (it's the second time I've done it) but expensive at £300 for a new OPC part.

I noted you had that for sale but decided to buy new as the last s/h one I bought also broke prematurely in the same place. Brittle plastic due to age?
I now have two broken ones so a €44 fix could result in a £150 sale each.

I've just bought a new indicator/wiper stalk unit from Porsche, it was just shy of £300 with discount. Makes €44 a bit of a bargain if a repair works.

It's not supposed to have a replaceable battery, its a sealed unit, but people have split it along the seam, replaced the battery (actually a number of button batteries shrink wrapped like a tube of Polos) and resealed the unit.
