Hi there @dpg123. I'm in a similar boat, found a hire ebike on its side still leaning against my car and having clearly damaged it. The hire company said it's not their responsibility. Your advice would be most appreciated if you have a moment.

    Many thanks!

That sucks! @mutantfish25 has more recent and successful dealings than myself, but I'll send you a PM now with what I was able to share with them!

I paid £955 in August 23 for the 8 year service on my 2015 BGTS at Leeds OPC. I was told the age of the car reduced the price from £1,300.

You mean the mileage reduced the cost or the age? Is the age of the car not 8 years at an 8 year service, otherwise you'd not be getting an 8 year service?

In any case, it shows that shopping around is worth it.

My Macan is in today for front discs and pads...Porsche West London wanted £1350 and after a call to Porsche Brooklands, they offered to do it for £950. So off to Brooklands it went...

Would you rather sh*g Posh spice or Susan Boyle, bearing in mind Susan Boyle sounds better?

I remember when Susan Boyle's first album was coming out and they were heavily promoting it. They had a big launch party in London with all the Celebs, Simon Cowell etc. It's handle on twitter was a shortened version of "Susan's Album Party":       #susanalbumparty

Just plugs into the USB in the armrest. I had nothing in my Gen1 Macan but as long your armrest is connected to the PCM, which if you can play music etc from your phone or a USB stick, it would work. Wired means from your USB to the PCM.

If you just give them a call they can tell you👍

I still can't seem to find the kit you have. Do you know the model number or anything?

You don't now need to modify the PCM to get Andriod Auto or Apple Car Play. Get the Carlinkit it's then just plug and play even on Gen1.

Oh really???! Do you have a link to the correct product by chance? The website looks quite confusing!

  6. I run a Gen 1 turbo and I absolutely love it. I bought from an OPC and am in my 3rd year of ownership now (just). I renewed the warranty as it comes with breakdown cover. I have had a few issues in ownership, however:

    1) timing cover oil leak (fixed under warranty, in situ - almost pleased this is done as it's now had a permanent fix by Porsche so no future worries)

    2) Coolant expansion tank cracked and leaked (replaced under warranty)

    3) Coolant pipe split and leaked deep in the "v" of the engine (fixed under warranty)

    4) Rattle from the front suspension - turned out to be brackets supporting the huge one piece bonnet (replaced with updated design items under warranty)

    5) Rattles in the doors when closing (broken cable holders which were replaced under warranty)

The car is a 2015 model with just over 40k miles now. It came with a massive spec - the only thing missing which I miss is the heated front screen.

In terms of infotainment, the Gen 2 has the option of apple carplay (and is is an option so check it has it) but you can update the Gen 1 PCM to make it work, but it will affect the warranty of the PCM - I'll do this if I keep the car once the warranty runs out, or re-warranty it and then fit it:

I think @TROOPER88 may be diplomatically staying out of this thread rather than appear to be "touting" for business so to speak.

@Photogirl, surely it must be worth your while sending him a PM referencing this thread and asking if he would care to give you a quote/advice or both?

I think @TROOPER88 was tired of the grief he got from certain people for no reason...he's got a good facebook page instead and I can't imagine he'd be short of business...

  8. Happy Friday All!

So the drivers side elastic on my hood has given up. Putting the hood up it no longer (always) pulls the hood into the channel of the frame above the rear end of the door. No biggie (just use your hand) but I want this repaired.

Living in great fear of my amazing mother-in-law who could probably do this if I could somehow tell her how, can anyone recommend a trimmer or hood repairer in London that might be able to save me from asking her?

    Thanks!

  9. My renewal just came in for the Macan - last year £585. Renewal? £1389. No claims, no point, no convictions...full no claims.

So I hit the comparison sites...cheapest was £990. That's a 70% increase on last year.

Insurance is a racket as far as I can tell. Insurance is a commodity with loads of suppliers and price transparency (via aggregators/comparison sites). The huge price increases many of us are experiencing cannot be explained by "inflation" or "used car values having gone up" or "lack of spares / new cars meaning long and expensive hire car periods". Collusion within the industry seems more believable.

I hope so too as I have them on mine!!!! but what you read and what occurs may well be 2 different things! But I agree £6k estimate for brakes is comical after such little use, unless it was 18k miles of track days 🤣

How much are a set of PCCB's on your 10 wheeler?!

Are you sure your not confusing the brakes with the current setup on the GTS which is “Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB), with a thin tungsten carbide coating on the brake discs, offers a faster response, increased friction coefficients, less wear and up to 90 per cent less brake dust compared with conventional grey cast iron brakes”

I may be wrong but I’m guessing the price for replacement will be in between the steels and the PCCB’s

I read the PSCB's were expected to last 60k miles before replacement. I also read that most PCCB owners switch to standard steels come replacement time.

I know it as, Block Exemption Regulation.

But as CMA says, you pays your money and sign on the dotted line.

Either way, brakes are not a £6k job...and there are now also service plans available for Macan's which help reduce/spread the costs. I'm not saying these are cheap cars to run but if you've spent the money on a new GTS then you can probably afford to run it...

I was thinking with that price, they saw him coming a mile away...

I would have loved a Macan for what it does but I have no interest in paying Porsche servicing costs for my family car.

But you don't have to. You can still have your warranty and service it at a specialist with Porsche parts. My experience is that's a big saver if you don't live where I do (London) and things like services, brakes, anything big are similar to any other brand. I went from a Land Rover (RR Sport) that demanded a service every year - in reality it needed an oil change every 6 months because of "fuel contamination - they all do that Sir" and it was a total nightmare. The Macan is serviced every 2 years, any big ticket items are predictable (like brakes) and apart from a couple of hiccups (which were perfectly dealt with by Porsche Assist) it's been a wonderful car to own. Yes, a VW or similar are probably cheaper to run, but in the grand scheme of things, it's really not a big difference. I service it at the OPC but I've only had to do it once so far (in 2 yrs) and the next is due in May 2025...and that's an interim.

  14. Talking of Macans, I just did a trip to Paris and back over the weekend and it was an immense motorway eater. Much better than our previous car (RR Sport) and just munched up the miles. If I was to recommend an SUV it would be a Macan in any form over a Q5, BMW or Merc. They’re wonderful for what they are. I’d probably go for an S or a diesel S over a 2.0 which I had on loan before though, it just felt too lethargic but was still a lovely car.

i binned my GTS at 18,000 miles  - had to have new pads and discs all round and the quote was close to 6k thru porsche so i thought get out whilst the going was good.

same with the q7 - discs pads tyres all needed doing at 33k - so ive chopped it for a Vorsprung model

I had discs and pads (f & r) on my Macan Turbo replaced at Porsche Brooklands for £1800 inc VAT recently. Who quoted you £6k??!

Driving to the OPC today for some warranty work to be completed and my beautiful Porsche Boxster black edition was smashed to pieces by a stupid lorry driver who decided to drive into me, the whole side of the drivers car is damaged, all four wheels broken, front bumper, mirrors and suspension damage and loads of other dents and scratches. It was dragged onto a low loader and taken to Copart so it’s unlikely I’ll see it again. 99.9% a right off according to the insurance company but awaiting inspection. I’m absolutely gutted!

So sorry to hear this...you could always do a Matt Armstrong, buy it back and repair it? You'd be ££'s in and have your car back (if done properly)?

Sorry to about your accident but as others have said the main thing is you haven't been injured. Do you have legal cover with your policy, they may be able to offer some advice. However I am always a bit sceptical about insurance companies legal protection cover as the wording can be very weak as to whether they would take up a case. I always prefer to take out a seperate legal protection cover with someone independent, such as Driver Guardian for which you only pay one premium covering anything you drive rather than per policy.

Interestingly, as I found out a few years back, the legal cover offered by car insurance companies isn't usually restricted to only motoring related legal issues. You should be able to approach them for advice on any legal issue you are encountering...I did (related to my wife's employer) and they were very helpful (and free).
