I wonder what the bolts on the exhaust manifold header look like
They looked bad, I needed to hammer a socket onto each one but everyone came out fine which was unexpected.

@Escy If you are breaking I'm after the gear shifter thing please (the bit the gear knob attaches to and moves the cables). Cheers.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier, £100 posted

I think this is repairable without removing anything. Clean up all the grease with a wire brush, brake cleaner, etc. Then just apply something to the seam all the way around. I'd go with seam sealer (as I've got a huge pot of it) but a silicone sealant, tiger seal, etc would do the trick. Then just don't drive it until it's fully set. All it needs to do is stop the grease coming out.
I once built hybrid driveshafts using the 986 ends on 987 shafts, I split them where this seam that is leaking is. I tack welded the new ends on and just ran silicone around the joint and it was fine.

It's worth more in parts.

It's not that bad, you should see my mates 964 before he started welding it up.
Is there any holes in structural bits sills, subframe mounts?
There's nothing structural wrong with it, it's not like an MX5 or S2000. It's all superficial. Just most owners wouldn't allow it to get into this state.

I bought it to strip for parts. It's just it's so rough I thought I'd share some photos

Not cheap enough!
It does look like it's been in the sea. A local guy bought it with the intention of doing a track car build with a VAG 1.8t swap. He wisely changed his mind as it's a total POS, not a redeeming quality about it. I'm stripping it for parts, everything I take off seems to be damaged. I thought I'd share some photos just so people can see how bad they can get. You'd never make a decent car out of this. I've had a few and mileage really seems to make a difference (based on the theory that lower mileage see's less Winter use)
The only thing making it from this to mine are the undertrays.

I thought I'd share some pictures of a 54 plate Boxster 987 I bought. It's done 150k and is the roughest I've ever seen. It looks reasonable from a distance but it's a total mess.

I initially cut my plinth down to the same size as my number plate. It didn't last well as the ends which I'd glued back into the plinth were getting pulled from the bumper by the number plate.
When I got my bumper painted I removed the plinth. I ended up using magnets to hold the number plate on. I've only actually put it on for the MOT, just run without it and I'll take my chances with the old bill.

Yeah but be honest, how much of your Boxster actually has that 108k on it?
Not that much!

Supported car lists off this link
https://www.xtool.co.uk/wholesale/xtool-x100-pro2-auto-key-programmer.html
I know it supports it but my car is a bit of a special case, I've removed the factory DME which can give me issues on cars like this. I've got another tool that says it supports it but it doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's the tool or the car. It will cost me £230 to buy this tool to find out, I'm a bit reluctant.
-
I posted the wrong video, that was about £1000. This one is is £230. I'm tempted to buy one to try but worried it won't work on my car due to canbus communication errors.
-
Paul, I'm interested in your canbus work. What are you looking to achieve?
-
Using PIWIS to copy over data from one cluster to another doesn't change the mileage. I've tried. I've got a Boxster with 108k on it, want to fit a Boxster S cluster which has 115k miles but don't want to keep that mileage.
There are relatively cheap diagnostics that claim to change the mileage. I have a Nexpeak which cost me sub £100, it attempts it but it doesn't work. I have some canbus communication errors on mine so possibly that's why. Or they just claim it does stuff it doesn't.
There's this one also

I do agree with you regarding the Subframe. You’d have to be fairly hamfisted and be taking drastic action for that to happen.

The golf did turn out reasonably expensive although I believe my son managed to keep the bill down to about £1200. It was never going to be cheap anyhow taking into consideration the heavy PDK Gearbox.
Maybe the OP should buy my daughters low mileage, 06, 2.7, 987.1 which is sitting there in very good condition with a cooked engine. I will probably take 2.5 K for it. Think of all the other spares you have….
I'm trying to send you a private message, it says you can't accept, maybe your inbox is full?

I've just messaged you

I think you can just switch them out but some of the Bose speakers use odd Ohm's so I don't know if they'd be any complications.
I've got a pair of Bose tweeters you could have for £25 posted if you want to replace them with the same thing.

I've got a 957 Cayenne S 4.8, it's pretty bad, averages under 15mpg but I do a fair bit of towing with it.
-
One thing, I think you might need the diff cover from an early 986 to fit any diff in. I can't remember what the difference was but pretty sure there was a reason for it.
-
I had a 5 speed with a Kaaz LSD in it. Now I have a 6 speed with a Quaife. Kaaz was a proper LSD with clutch plates, a little noisy on tight turns (more so when cold) but felt great. Quaife is an ATB, no clunks, but not as aggressive. Booting it out of corners the car felt electric with the Kaaz, was so impressed with how it put the power down (400bhp then).
For a track car, a plated diff all day long. Kaaz was the cheapest option when I was looking last time. EMD Motorsport supply them at a good price. At the time they were about £850 but that's going back years.
-
Use sold prices then, not guide prices. I bet all 3 do more.
-
I'm lost here. I'm looking at for sale prices, you are looking at sale prices at an auction. What have guide prices got to do with it?
You seem to be saying at an auction, 987's go cheaper than 986's. If that's the case, why are all the 986's cheaper than the 987's when retailed? Makes no sense.
-
Yeah, I know. Makes it even more odd to say 987's are dropping fast. Nothing is dropping fast.

Incorrect.
I am looking at prices daily and see the 'sold' prices as opposed to 'for sale' prices.
987's are dropping fast.
It is in the interest of my business to know the prices.
They aren't, 987 prices are up on where they were 2 years ago. Just because you've picked up a cheap one doesn't prove the rule.
If you look on auto trader, Boxster with a price under 8000, sort by age, there are 52 results 3 are 987's, the other 49 are 986's.
You got to compare like for like, not nice examples of the 986's vs dog rough 987's.
