    Options, all factory:

Roll over hoops, side vents, rear undervalance and front grill strikes in body colour

Never seen the side vents and rear undervalance painted white before, didn't know that was even an option, could it be the previous owner had them sprayed? I do like the side vents painted, might have to look into that for mine.

Didn't get the full leather but have to say the pebbled vinyl dash , door cards etc is a big improvement on the 987

I've had my old 2.7 with the pebbled vinyl dash and my current has full leather, I think I preferred my old one as the leather seems to cause much more screen reflections in sunny weather compared to the pebbled one.

    Very nice looking car, enjoy!

Hi CMA, may I ask who you use? I've been using the team that used to be called A-Plan for the last few years but they were bought out by Howdens and now want to increase my premium by 21%. Nothing about me or the car has changed in the last 12 months, except we're both a year older!

Boxster is with Aviva. I just use the comparison sites and see what's cheapest making sure they have the cover options I want

    P Zeros are bad right?
Hopefully looking at couple of cars this weekend the one which has PASM and is a bit more ££ is on P Zeros - replacing with PS4S's is £1000 right?

Some like the P Zeros, but no matter what used tyres you get on a car they will need replacing at some point anyway, either by wear or age. Price is easily checked on any tyre website. If you're not having OPC warranty there are other options to replace them with too.

so that the next q - current market not many with PASM so how important should  it be to me?

Drive one with and without and see what you think, only you can tell how important it is. I've had 2 981s without PASM and have no problems at all even on todays roads, so for me it's not important but a nice to have.

I am looking at Caymans too and not sure if this would be better or worse than a Boxster

Worse as they have a tin roof 😛

At least the 981's, most come with heated seats - its just the Xenon, cruise, extended leather that seem to be very hit and miss...

Think about what can be easily retrofitted if you find the perfect car. Cruise can be done for around £500+ at OPC, maybe less at independent (I had it retrofitted on my first 981)

Thanks for the responses.....showing my lack of knowledge, but what's the transfer box issue?

One to google as there's loads of info out there, mine manifested itself similar to as is written here https://www.vehiclehistory.com/questions/what-are-some-of-the-porsche-macan-transfer-box-problems-103934

"Many owners have felt vibrations or acceleration that's stuttered when starting from a flat surface or at speeds of 25-35 mph. It sort of feels like You're going over a lot of small speed bumps, and is initially somewhat understated"

Started breaking it up. Bumpers and light off, all rear struts, hubs and suspension arms removed. Aim to drop the rear of the car onto a pallet, unbolt the engine/gearbox and then lift the body off the engine/gearbox and slide them out.

    Self dismantling or assisted?

  7. Depends on what age you're looking for, early ones have higher tax, from about 2017 they have the new car premium then drop on year 6 to £180 a year

Most seem to have the transfer box issue at some point in their life, mines just been identified as needing a new one. (2017 GTS)

Up to around 2019 are Porsche engines, after they use Audi variants. The 2.0 four pot is ok but a bit gutless and highly strung if you're used to the silky smooth V6 versions

2016 to around 2021 they all have proper buttons in the centre console, 2019 on they have a bigger screen. After 2021 they have god awful touch buttons, had a brand new one last week while mine was in for servicing and it was horrendous and just looked a greasy fingerprint mess when I handed it back, larger screen was nice though.

Options are things to look out for depending on what you like. I wish I'd waited for one with the Burmeister stereo as I think the Bose is a bit naff.

I had my left hand side PSE unit replaced on Monday by Porsche Silverstone under warranty. They kindly lent me a 3,000 mile old CGTS 4.0 for a couple of days. I thought most people said the sound was not as good as a 981, but tbh they are talking nonsense. It sounded great in fact. It also went like stink!

That would be as the 4.0 is a flat6 the same as the 981. It's the 2.0 and 2.5 718s that have the flat4 that some don't like the sound of.

  9. They can suspect you may be hiding something, but all claims are recorded in the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) anyway, so its easy to check if I have had a claim, all they are doing when asking you to declare is seeing if you are honest and providing them with a get out if you're not. In todays data age we shouldn't need to keep inputting already known data they should be able to access it and present it as fact to the person requiring a quote. Would certainly save typing the same stuff time and time again.

Lesson learnt though, next time I try scenarios I'll use a duff name and reg.

  10. Around the end of Feb I was told having a windscreen claim affected your insurance, having come from the time where glass claims were never asked about or mentioned I though I'd check, so went onto Compare the Meercat and did a quote with and without a windscreen claim. Finding out the difference was a massive £10. Not to bad and lesson learnt.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago, my renewal came through from Aviva, £3 more than last year, happy with the price I just renewed.

Today I got an email from the saying "Do you want to check your details? We've noticed you declared a claim on a quote back in Feb...."

Amazing how linked everything is and how it might bite you if you do come to claim. Makes me wonder if I'm now marked in the system as a higher risk as I "might" have a claim I'm not declaring, even though I don't and was just looking at price differences

I've got to sort mine by tomorrow and the prices are 50-100% more than last year !

"if you had a second car and only drove 3000 miles , it would be cheaper"

It's legalised theft, as they do F all for the money !

Someone's got to pay for all these expensive EV repairs.

I'm in the lucky pack it seems, my Boxster insurance has only gone up £3 from last years price.

Oh really? Can anyone else validate this as well? Would save me a lot if I got this done through an indy with official parts

Have a read the small print, servicing and repairs need to be done by OPC https://assets-v2.porsche.com/gb/-/media/Project/PCOM/SharedSite/Porsche-Service/Vehicle-Information/Approved-Warranty/PCGB/Porsche-Approved-Warranty-Terms-and-Conditions.pdf

    Page 4:
A claim made under Your Policy for the repair or replacement of a defective system or component shall be invalid to the extent that the defect results from any of the following:
    .......
    c) Service, repair, or maintenance has previously been performed on the Vehicle by you or a third party who is not an authorised Porsche Centre/Porsche Service Centre;

Although if you have fresh brakes fitted by an independent but use genuine parts I doubt a claim for gear box failure would be refused. but servicing is an easy one for them to refuse a claim as its not stamped in the book.

    That is interesting.

I’m not sure how that works  (i can see it being correct tho) - i can see how paying a monthly DD would change the payment at the appropriate month, (but you pay a 5% surcharge on that) - but if its an annual DD, that’s a bit different as surely the payment hets taken at the start of the year for the whole year. ?

When paying by monthly DD they send you a schedule of your payments and dates, which shows the change in payment at the right month, I always pay by monthly DD so not sure how it works if you pay 12 months up front, maybe it is worked out as they know when it will change, I guess you'll find out :)

Its a flat £180 once the £390 luxury car tax surcharge expires at hte end of year 6.

My 2018 x3 M40d luxury car surcharge expires this year in July. - the tax is up in April.

it is cheaper (by a lot) to tax it for 6 months in April at (£95) and then i am only due to pay 6 months surcharge of £200, and then tax it for a year in October for a full year at £180, (£475 f0r 18 months) than it is to tax it for 12 months in April at £180) and pay the 12 month surcharge of £390) then tax it for 6 months (£95) (£665) for teh same 18 month period

Or if you pay it by Direct Debit for 12 months it drops cost on the right month so you pay no more surcharge than needed. That's what happened with my 2017 Macan GTS

My 981s   is 2014  (63) , with 28000 miles , am i correct in what i read that the  PDK  oil should be done at 12 yrs or 120,000 miles.  Even though mine is 12 yrs,

If yours is a 2014 then it is only 10 years old so far

I think it says 12years or 120k miles, whichever comes first. Oil has the tendency to be hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the ambient environment, so the fact it might not have done the mileage it's sat there potentially absorbing any moisture in the box so may not perform as well.

Ok thanks, hopefully I'll remember next time. Maybe my method today had to effectively charge the main battery through the door latch until it had enough juice to operate the froot release. Not sure but obviously it worked eventually.

Question - Isn't the check strap black - so it's painted?

Although the door latch is silver I guess it could be painted also. So the same situation of earthing through paint.

Looking at mine there is some plastic surround or washer behind the latch between it and the body, which could affect conductivity, the check strap is black, but is bolted direct to the chassis without plastic surround/washer.

But if it worked that's great, just flagging from experience, if someone follows this and has trouble try the check strap instead.

  17. 1 hour ago, ATM said:

Then hopefully you can see I have accessed the fuse box. And then pulled out the red thing which is near the top of the fuse box on the 981. Positive goes on here and negative I attach to the door latch thing.

According to the manual the negative should be on the door check strap (the bit in the hinge area of the door). I know of someone who struggled to get the frunk to open using the door latch but as soon as they changed the negative to the check strap it worked straight away.

Within 3 months it'd had a new steering rack, new driveshaft, HVAC controls, and 2 weeks off the road for a phantom brake fluid leak (which was over £1000 of labour to find, disassemble & fit a £14 part)

It wasn't a bad car, it had just been owned by someone who had the regular maintenance done every 2 years, nothing preventative, repaired something if it went wrong, probably wasn't an enthusiast

Out of interest what was wrong with these bits that an enthusiast might have picked up on?

Interesting info. Shortly after I bought my Cayman which had the wheels refinished, one of the sensors disintegrated, rattling around inside the wheel. Wonder if whoever had refitted the valves/TPMS had overtightened? I had just assumed it had broken due to the kerbs I might have used at a trackday at Spa.

Or more common is the fitter catches it with the bead breaker or a tyre lever, may have been damaged then your kerb exploits finished it off

Thats £6 for a valve core and valve cap as they cant easily swap out TPMS valves.

They shouldn't need to replace the whole TPMS, unless it's failed, they can easily change just the valve stem part, which is a spanner and allen key job, takes no time at all. Had a 4 done on my Macan recently. (done by Kwik Fit)

I thought if you had a current OPC warranty and the last service was carried out by an OPC you could just renew without paying for the 111 point check?

For warranty renewal, if you have an expiring one, they don't even check the last service, just need a pic of the V5 and the current mileage. Just renewed my Macans warranty that way. If the warranty has lapsed or you've not had one then that's when the 111 point check and service details comes into it.
