  1. Recently went through this with National Windscreens.  I asked for, and the insurer agreed, to replace with OEM glass (Aviva).

Took 3 attempts before it was finally fitted properly on the 4th.

1st - didn't fit properly, very obvious height gaps almost like it wasn't the correct glass (ie looking at the top edge it was low in the middle and high on each side).  New glass required.

2nd - fit looked fine but the mirror was loose.  As it has rain sensors this meant it had to be new glass.

3rd - didn't fit properly at all so the installer removed it and reinstalled the original glass, advised that it would need to be taken to the centre.

4th - took to the centre and they reinstalled the 3rd glass and fit is fine.

Overall, despite the hassle, I can't really fault National Windscreens as they saw the job through until I was satisfied.

Sorry, this probably doesn't inspire confidence!

It has a tough act to follow v the 981GTS, in fact it can only fail in that respect ie as a drivers car BUT all I can say is I'm lovin it so far.

First of all, welcome to the BE club :)

Not sure why you think the GTS would be the better drivers car though?  The 987 has the better (for feel) hydraulic steering and a manual box.  The other changes that come with the GTS are arguably comfort related (power is pretty much the same) and the sound.  Not having a go at the GTS, I just don't think they necessarily make a better drivers car.  All just my opinion though and I've not driven a 981 of any flavour and will also happily admit that I am probably biased!

  3. Once reassembled can you  jack up the rear of the car (securely of course) and see whether it will run?  You could do this before getting the brake line sorted.  Not sure whether the computer will allow this of course but worth a shot.

  4. No help to you but I have an interesting story.

Guy sits next to me at work has a 987.2 which I didn't realise until I overheard him talking to OPC who had the car for repair.  Turns out that water had gotten in and fried the computer under the passenger seat.  Fortunately the car is under warranty so they are replacing it.  The stupid thing is that this is the second time in 6 months that it's happened.  Guy at work was obviously annoyed at this and asked OPC what he could do to prevent it - their response?  Get a car cover to stop the leaves getting in!!!  Seriously!  The first time it happened they didn't bother to explain how the water gets in and what he can do to prevent it.  They didn't even offer this information the second time it happened - despite the fact that they've now had to shell out for two computers and a hire car for the best part of a month.  No doubt they just bill it back to Porsche.

I've since explained the cleaning procedure to him and recommended he get a trombone cleaner (although this probably isn't necessary if the grills are in place and he cleans them regularly).
