Hi Mike forgive my ignorance what’s ‘the old hot air gun trick?’ Thanks in advance.
On many grey'd plastic car parts the use of evenly applied heat melts the oxidation ever so slightly restoring the original black look. I've been doing it on old bumpers for years with amazing results. There is a knack to it though... much like spraying paint, you need to apply heat evenly and gently and watch the reaction to get a uniform finish. Its much much easier on a relatively small part like the scuttle because you can work on one half at a time.
My plan was to remove it and do it in the garden , but instead protected the windscreen and bonnet with some cloths and its all good.
The plastic transforms before your eyes.... but be aware of course, too much heat in one place for too long will end up melting !!
I wish I had taken some before and after photos but will try and put some finished pics up

Interesting. I think I may have the same problem. Did you adjust at the wheel, inside, or both?
I have done a temporary fix by putting a heavy duty cable tie around the nearside handbrake cable to the control arm just to tighten it up enough to take the little bit of slack up..... when I have more time I will adjust at the handbrake properly and also at the wheels

FINALLY ! I cured the rattle I've been getting round to seriously looking for for as long as I've had the car.
Turned out to be the handbrake linkage inside the drum / disc that was rattly.... just nipped the cable up a bit, That simple !!

Aww, sweet
So you're saying your weekend got a whole load more expensive?
Any reason you don't reverse in and get out of the driver's door? Old Dukes of Hazzard habits die hard?
Yes indeed !! I could reverse in but don't trust myself to get it as tight to the wall as I can driving in forward, plus I can roll the window down and fold the door mirror in

What I want to know @Mike G is how do you then get out of the car?!!
At 57 , still being reasonably supple !! I climb across without scuffing my feet or putting un due pressure on any part of the interior and simply climb out of the passenger door.
Leaving the roof down would make disembarking an awful lot easier but thats a cradle a few inches above for a sinclair C5 !!

My 986 got a baby brother for his owners grandson

Could'nt do anything to or with my 986 today as its landlocked in the garage whilst a new block paved drive goes down.
At 11 o clock this morning I could have tried reversing it out but it would have had a 12" drop to contend with !

Had a CEL yesterday, O2 sensor. Bank 1 sensor 1. Replaced with a Bosch part , £ 71 from eurocarparts, a tad better than the £257 plus VAT plus fitting Porsche wanted

Guys , is the all too familiar puff or sometimes cloud of blue smoke on the occasional start up a sign that the air / oil separator is due a change ?
