  1. Interested in this thread I went from a 986 2.7 manual to a 987 3.4 PDK and I do wonder if the sweet spot for me would be a 2.7 PDK just for the fact it will need working harder.

For road, I found the 2.7 in the tight twisty stuff was way better than my current 3.4 I think just where you are in the rev range helps & I'm still driving my 3.4 2nd/3rd everywhere.

I suppose it's what you do with your car personally, outright speed vs throwing it around corners and enjoying the twisty routes I'm the latter.

Firstly big thanks to both @Cocky luke and @bally4563 mick for the sterling work they have both done on my 987 over the last few weeks they were 2 totally different jobs that became real pigs to do for different reasons but it has made my car more reliable and hopefully a bit nearer to getting it through its mot in next couple of weeks.

But i have also seen work that has been carried out by people before my ownership and it isnt always very well done for instance if you look at the service history there was some clutch work done at approx 80,000 miles so i assumed it had a clutch in reality on closer inspection of the work it was a seal/ring replaced when the clutch failed last september at 119,000 then i got a new clutch flywheel rms and gearbox oil replaced by the garage who did the work and i try to buy as close to oe spec as i can afford so i dont buy the cheapest available.

Now as my second mot approaches since owning the car i realise that ns headlight was replaced at some point last year it went down as advisory as the garage was unable to adust the beam pattern this has got worse and i doubt it will get through mot this time so yesterday i took out the headlight and if u flip off the endcap you can manually adjust the lenses but i can either get it too low or too high compared to the os headlight so i have had to bite the bullet and find a replacement from a breaker. On closer inspection this headlight has been replaced at some point in the past with a cheap aftermarket unit the build quality is nowhere near the same as the os one so i guess at some point the car has had some light front end damage i think this is backed up by the fact the os headlight dosent lock into the locking plate properly and i think the locking plate may be bent but that's something for a future time to reslove.

I could find other things that have been poorly done over its life but i think what i have learned that 2 years after buying my 987 I am now begining to understand where its needs attention and where it doesnt i also now get why mick has created a thread on his new to him 981 and why he has been so through going through it and i know many of u do the same and now it makes total sense to me.

So hopefully replacement headlight will solve the adjustment issue then it will be oil and filter and new handbrake shoes at the same time as mot and then i cant look forward to bringing the car onto to the next stage of my maintenance plan

I wouldn't read too far into the headlight thing, it's guess work. On the same thought process somebody could simply be where you are with a failed headlight and just went on eBay and bought something.

I agree on quality however now you have spotted it's aftermarket it was strange you had one clouded headlight and one clear headlight.

Paint is icing on the cake

If the cake is awful don't ice it

I drove my car round smashed up to make sure it all worked before I did the icing

No one will care at BoXa meets

You just need to be positive about everyone else's cars or they'll chop you up into little pieces and eat them with a glass of Chianti

One of us will only throw a stone at your car mid drive anyway @Jcn27

Get your car booked in for an inspection, likelihood is just an rms weep. People replace the rms seals with clutch changes all the time and still end up with tiny drips.

As for runs out with the forum I can mirror @ATM and say it's more about getting out for a drive. Up North we have some amazing roads, roads you can really drive in cars that are very fun!

If you're not confident in arranging a meet & leading a run out. Drop me a PM and I'm happy to P1 some of the NE finest if you have any routes in mind.

We did a route in 2022 over to Seahouses for fish and chips and it was quite fun! Didn't have a clue where we was going just chose the most squiggly lines Google maps had to offer and it was a really fun day out 👍

Haven’t read the whole thread but has anyone suggested the Carnewal GT option ? Seems a very reasonably priced option !

The Carnewal is basically a internal version of a bypass and I agree they sound nice. I think they're nicer on what he does to the 987.1 + exhausts.

It sounds like for Fizz due to having some issues with the exhaust seams his back box is getting a little beyond repair & the option of a new exhaust for around the same price as a Carnewal to me sounds pretty appealing.

    Lighter too

Took it to zorstec as you suggested mate. 👍

The normal dilemma is how do you know what it sounds like till you pay to have it done! 😛

Well in that case if you told him you wanted it a bit throatier (is that even a word?) without turning too many heads for the wrong reasons, he will provide the goods.

What I've seen and heard of his, 100%

Plus you can ask for discount as Toddies going straight after 😂👍

So took my car down to a local exhaust specialist and he's found that the rattling noise i get once ive taking the car for a spirted run is most likely coming from the seam of the backbox as its blowing through that corner. My theory was that once i get it up to temp and above normal operating temp it expands more and the lose bits start to tap away against each other.

He said due to the way these back boxes are made there's little chance to be able to weld it and it will need replacing.

So he can makeup a custom backbox and tips for me with a rough estimate of £500 or i can find my own used OEM backbox and he will fit it for roughly £100.

Now i presume that this could be a potential cause of an error message i randomly get stating the banks 1 and 2 are running lean or could be a o2 sensor.

I've got the trackday in May and im thinking if i cant source a replacement backbox then you lot will just have to put up with the rattling and laugh at me as i go round! :D

They'll laugh at you going around anyway pal 😂😂

    Jaaaaast kidding.

Custom back box for 500 sounds good!
