Without checking, pretty sure it is a quick and easy change in the settings in the RHS cluster,

    Settings>>units>>speedometer >> select km/ km/h or  miles / mpg

    ^^ this.
Just did a European road-trip about 3 weeks ago and changed the units for speed/distance over to kms, whilst sat on Eurotunnel

  2. Not been around on here much in the last 12 months, been using the bike more than the car when the weather has been good, training for another London to Paris which 7 of us did in July 2022.

It all started 48 years ago when I was 7, dad brought me a Matchbox 917 back and since then I loved the cars and the brand/history etc.
Whilst as a teenager my friends had posters of the latest Ferrari or Lambo up on their bedroom walls (or that one of the female tennis player approaching the net and readjusting her sportswear!), for me it was only ever Porsche (or F1).

Almost bought a ‘74 911 when I was 20 - right in the midst of the hot-hatch/cossie TWOC-ing era so could (just about) afford the car at £6k, but insurance was around £15k!!

6 years later, a gorgeous 944 S2 was for sale locally, history and mileage were spot-on - homework first so it was “insurable”!, but at the time we’d not long since had my son, plus wife a the time didn’t drive, so wasn’t going to be too sensible as an only car.

2nd wife hired me a Boxster for 3 days for my 40th (unlimited mileage too!), and reaffirmed my love for the brand - only the 2nd time I’d actually driven a Porsche!

So, “many years later” In 2015 on my usual bi-annual road-trip to Frankfurt motor show, me and a mate added another day into the schedule and drove the few hours further down to Stuttgart and visited the museum & factory. Kids in a sweet shop!!

March 2016 and me and Mrs B 3rd got invited to the 718 launch. Wasn’t that fussed about going along, since I felt I’d got as close as I was going to get to ever having one, but my wife persuaded me - she’d just started her own business and with suggestions of “if it takes-off etc”, we went along. By then, I’d read all about the heresy of moving to forced induction and losing 2 cylinders, but went with a more open mind. Test drives were booked for a few weeks later, and again, my open mind was “you won’t miss what you never had” re the turbo’s 4 vs flat 6.
Loved the car dynamically. Being a typical bloke, I’d already spent hours on the configurator and gone trigger-happy with the options “might be the first and only porsche I have!!”. The finance figures were pretty-much spot-on where I needed them to be.
Decided to just step back and think - despite much protesting from the missus, wanting me to sign there and then for my dream car. Big decision and all that, wanted to be sure it was right.
Later that week, my son had 3 seizures [with no history of them prior] and rushed into hospital, diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. Surgery, radiotherapy and chemo followed during 2016, and with changed priorities, I put the car order on hold of course.
End of 2016 with Adam’s health stabilised and him on the verge to returning to work (albeit in a different role due to having to surrender his licence temporarily, which was a real bind as he was even more of a petrol-head than me!), and he and I already due to go to Stuttgart and Frankfurt in Sept 2017, I started to look again, but in those intervening months since the 718 launch and worrying about Adam’s health, I’d subconsciously decided to look for a good-spec 981S. Not much doing for a few months - every one I enquired about had sold or deposit taken.
Feb 2017, and 2 981 GTS’ popped up in Swindon OPC. My preferred colour choice (agate with red roof) was one of them, and that was the PDK which I wanted too!
Being GTS, the budget I’d set was immediately cast-aside to the tune of a further 15k!!, but the previous year had proven life really is too short, and me and Adam would be going to Stuttgart in something tastier than my company car!!
Thinking was even if I’ve got to sell it soon after that road-trip, then so be it. There’s a story behind collection day too - took Adam and he didn’t know I’d bought it or why we called-in to Porsche Swindon, the look on his face was priceless.
This GTS is the source of many happy memories for sure.

cr*p pics, but finally swapped over the side-repeaters on my 981 BGTS to the 911 led ones.

literally took me longer to detach the multi plug / electrical connector than it did to remove and replace the actual indicator unit. Plenty of how-to’s on you tube so didn’t bother with capturing mine.

a VERY subtle mod that most won’t notice, but then we’re mostly all afflicted with the same OCD with these cars!

Noticed this today (had noticed before but kinda ignored it). A perfect circle of condensation on inside of SC clock

Anyone else see this and have a magic solution other than removing, dismantling and thoroughly drying out?

Mine does this @Withy, got the usual “they all do that sir” at an OPC, same with the rear light clusters, often condensation in them although I can more understand - though not accept on a £60k car. Porsche even have pics in technical bulletin the OPC showed me re the rear lights.

  5. Welcome!
you’ve acquired your GTS with the same miles as I did mine, 4 1/2 years ago, having set out to find a high spec, decent 981S PDK.
Mine also PDK with GTS interior, carbon etc.

absolutely fantastic cars, a real special place to sit, and a real sense of occasion every time I start it and drive it.

it will be my next retrofit when I can justify £700 on a pair of illuminated carbon door sill plates!

Where are you getting OEM carbon illuminated 981 sills for? Best I have been quoted is around £960 with discount.

They look OEM almost especially with the matching red stitching.

My 981 S has full black leather so maybe re-trim in black leather is going a bit far but the Alcantara works for sure. I am looking for a phone mount and see you have one on your passenger vent. Any recommendations?

    Hi, its a mag-safe holder/charger by ESR   esrgear.com

To be honest, the clamp grips the vent-slat well, and there’s an adjustable “leg” that helps support it all, but for me it still leaves 2 issues:- the grips on the vent slat are rubber-coated but it can still swing left/right a fraction, and over rougher surfaces the whole assembly can move upwards and back down (as the vent slats allow it).

I’ve put it into our Macan as my wife is a away this week, and she’s said it has been good in that car.
I don’t tend to use the mobile screen much in the Boxster anyway, though would have for Waze had this mount worked-out. Ironically we don’t really need it in the Macan, as that has car-play!

It’s probably the best I’ve come across, but still not perfect.

  8. Finally, refitted my sun visors. Retrimmed in Alcantara with Carmine Red twin stitching to match much of the rest of the GTS-option Interior.

shout out to Hawkes Autoworks for a superb job. I’ve had them back for about 7 months, but only installed them on Friday. Really happy with the results.

Thanks Davidbf1.com,  I'm now going to order one, although I imagine the new inport duty from the EU may be a bit of a shock

Yes it could be. Am I correct in thinking you should NOT be paying the German VAT, “only” the UK VAT and possibly that to your courier - eg DHL, UPS etc? Just make sure you’ve not been invoiced twice for the VAT. There’s a better explanation on this forum somewhere.

  10. Hi @Afrikaner, you mean the front side-repeaters? Yes got them from OPC. I’d returned a leather key fob due to a design-flaw - not a manufacturing flaw - and wasn’t happy with it - we nearly lost one of the keys to our Macan down a street drain cover as the inner tether wasn’t fixed in any way. As I said, more a design flaw, not faulty. Shame, as it was quality leather item otherwise! Swapped it for the LED side repeaters after about 8 months waiting whilst the new accessories range launched (and no improved/alternative leather key fob), which in the end saved about £15-20 off what I would have paid for the indicators.

Absolutely! Blimey, @Davidbf1.com, thats a tight fit for your car in the garage! Assume you push it in?

Haha @JohnSyn - not quite, but it HAS to be reversed in (so I can use the mirrors for placement), and rear near side up tight against the brick pillar to give me as much space to open the drivers door as possible. Helps to have the roof down, and driver’s window down once in the garage, to get in and out of the car!!

There is a lip in the garage floor of about 40mm, which the rear wheels come up against right when the car is part-way in, with the side mirrors just before the metal frame of the garage door, with just 25mm either side between mirror tips and the door frame. Right at the point you’ve got to give the car a bit of beans to get up the lip (yes, I’ve put some wood down to lessen the “step”. Touch wood, I’ve always been lined-up correctly so far!!!

    Tight fit!
