  1. How handy are you with the spanners? I wouldn't about the oil misting between engine an box, if it starts to drip then consider doing it. Other than that the remaining things are all DIY-able. If not I believe EPorsche are up your way. Brakes all round will be a quarter of OPC prices if not less. Aircon condensor...leaving it won't increase costs, you'll have to get the remaining gas professionally removed anyway 👍

  2. The 'play' in the flywheel can be measured once the clutch is off to see if it is within tolerance. Then you can decide if it warrants replacement.

The laymans way to check flywheel condition is to have the car on idle and gently push the clutch pedal until you get about where the biting point is. A worn flywheel will now be rattling. I check by using my hand to push the clutch pedal down as you'll feel any vibrations much easier.

If you get a garage to do it they shouldn't charge any more labour, it's a two minute job to swap flywheels once the clutch is off.

Not sure of price on 987 flywheels, probably 250-300 quid as an educated guess

  3. All depends how OE you want to keep it. The prefab rear one that goes across the top of the engine bay can only be done with the gearbox out AFAIK, myself and others have just fed a pipe across and shaped it to fit. The rest are pretty simple but again depends whether you want the Porsche prefab pipes or get the Indy to make them as they go. I imagine you're looking in the region of £4-500 to have the whole lot done making your own pipes.

Talking about painful, I asked a dent removal guy how much he charges (without seeing the car) and he said £220! ?

Try elsewhere!! I asked a 'named brand' dent removal company how much to sort a small dent, they were around £200 as well. So I spoke to the bodyshop who eventually painted my bumper and the chap they use for minor dents did it for £50, only took him 15 mins and the job was perfect. I'd ask at your nearest indy who they use for dents :)

  6. Today I removed my newly painted front bumper, and added some black mesh behind the grilles. Looks so much better. I also cleaned out the crud from the rads, which are fortunately in excellent condition.

Car was then washed and dried then put away ready for me to give it a layer of Jetseal 109 B)

    Hi Golfprorich,

What glue did you use to repair the split “piping”?

Just normal Loctite superglue. It seemed to do the trick but I will re-check in a day or so. As it was at the bottom I may wrap a bit of tape round to stop any water getting in. Ideally I'd have liked to just drill out the blockage but there wasn't enough movement in the hood to get a drill lined up :(

My cable has broken, and I tried removing the cable but a small section of corroded cable was left inside the “piping”. Tried all sorts to try and get the section of broken cable out of the “piping” but it wont budge. Might have to split the “piping” to get the remainder of the cable out, but that will leave me with another problem to sort!!

I guess these things are sent to try us:)

@S14This is exactly what happened to me this morning! About 3" from the bottom was blocked with rusted old cable. In the end I decided to dissect the pipe with a Stanley knife and removed the blockages. Once the new cable was in I simply glued the incision together. I made the cut on the inside of the pipe so it wasn't visible from the outside :)

Actually there has been more rain than usual this winter which is good for reservoir water levels etc as last few years have been dry. Still not a very common occurrence and when it happens it always makes the news. This is often due to car accidents etc as they continue to tailgate etc and generally drive like a cross between Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, even in the worst weather conditions. Thank goodness it never snows down our way.

It is often extremely heavy when it does rain and infrastructure does not cope very well. Had no internet for about 12 hrs on Friday.

You may be near my mate who lives in Southern Spain, usually he's bragging about the sun and how much golf he is playing, but recently its just moaning about the rain and lack of internet!!

Still, I've had the use of his 997 C4S since he moved out there so its fine by me for him to remain :D
