Drove a 981 recently from Aberdeen to Carlisle and was fitted a Top gear valved exhaust, had to swop cars and drivers as the Drone game a splitting headache …..Just saying!!

Interesting.I thought it could be different engines that made the difference in drone (mine 2.7)  YouTuber Joe talks cars has a 3.4 Cayman with one and loves it so I'm not sure.Hearing sensitivity maybe 🤔

  2. Can you weld yourself? The guy who did mine clearly couldn't.. When I took it off to fit the new one is was shocking bird poo rusty mess and already blowing after a few weeks.. Don't know if its possible to do the inner and outer skin. The new one is so much better sounding than the standard non PSE..I can understand you already have it modded so different situation. Also the new ones not so asbo after its been on a while.would have been ok with the non valved but everything I read said go for valves but yeah maybe my sound proofing is the difference,

  3. Just had a look and Spyder says out of stock atm.. Basically was the same price as the standard box from elsewhere. They sometimes come up on their Facebook page on a discount or at least used to.. Same as you thought get the old box welded and took it to a local exhaust place that has a good reputation but mine was gone on top both sides so different to your situation. They had to remove the exhaust to weld after sorting out the studs cost £300 but wish I'd just got the new box and have them fit . Have a feel on the tops where they usually go just to make sure you don't have to deal with that in the near future as well.

  4. I have the Spyder performance valved that is the same as the two you mentioned,it was a lot cheaper .

I wouldn't recommend getting the old box welded because it's only going to be a temporary fix (double skinned) and I wasted my money getting mine done. Failed MOT shortly after because of it

If its the original box. I wouldn't bother.

Fitting the new one is easy enough especially as your old box has been off before so the studs have hopefully been sorted.

Haven't connected the valves yet and not sure I'll bother with it because I like the noise and fitted sound deadning ages ago so don't find any drone too bad tbh understand it might be a bit much on a long motorway run tho.

    Good luck with it..

  5. 16mm Spline socket delivered so changed the gearbox oil at last.

Rounded  what looks like a brass connector attempting to change the steering fluid so gave up on it.Think I'll try and suck it out the reservoir bit by bit unless anyone has any good ideas?

Sent the wheels oil off for a refurb.

Had my MOT done yesterday...FAIL on hand brake not working. Only 3-4 weeks ago it was adjusted and was working correctly, now it looks as nothing happens, just as the cable snapped.

Sounds a bit suspect having just had it worked on or maybe a previous owner was a bit heavy handed I guess.. Good luck with it.

I don’t know how disks can become so scored. When mine have worn on any car, they have worn evenly until a ridge forms on the edge of the disc. The actual surface of the disk is still flat with hardly a mark on them.
Is this heavy scoring down to cheap discs and pads?

It's the silly perforated discs that are a  gimmick imoa.Nothing to do with cost.

  8. I've have a set of ceramic pads and just plain vented discs on the front.Normal set up on the rear.happy with it.I don't track.it's easy enough to change them if needed.. Can't say it's adversely affected braking. quite the opposite.Yes massive improvement on keeping the wheels clean but even without that I wouldn't go back to semi metallic on the front..pinch of salt etc but just my two cents.

    Find another MOT tester?

I may have had an MOT recently where I asked the tester "Shouldn't it be on fast idle now?"

He replied "It is. ;) "

That won't improve my skills on the spanners 🤔 They have been good tbf.. They did the retest unofficially so  I have a few more days to try sort the leaks..

  10. My base 2006 failed on fast idle emissions Friday.I had a new exhaust for it anyway so fitted over the weekend and returned for a retest unfortunately another failure..I didn't use assembly paste because there's only the joints where it mates with the X-pipe and the new tips.I wonder if I should apply assembly paste at the manifold joint and the x-pipe and possibly the tips.. Could the manifold be the issue? Wouldn't that throw a code if it was cracked?Any advice please..

If you only want to do it every 2 years 20k  then maybe it would be worth paying extra..

After all the work, I’ve been doing, clutch change gear cables etc , leaning over the car, had a lot of micro scratches, so DA all the back end and finished off with poor boys, quite pleased with the result, still a one footer distance , but on the whole quite pleased
