Do you imagine exhaust emissions are good for our health? Morons, it seems, are widely available.

Are you insulting me again? I won’t get drawn look at the facts - do your research.

  2. And not just London I understand it’s coming to lot of major cities, all under the guise of helping pollution which is proven to be a load of b*ll*cks. I guess if we all continue to elect these morons this is what we get.

    Reviving this thread.

I have a 52 Plate Boxster S and live in London. December 2021, sent of my CoFC and V5c. Day later. ULEZ compliant.

Today I have got an email from TFL saying as of 24/02/2023 we are removing this and you will need to pay ULEZ. I have sent the document back along with the AA link pointing out the Euro 4 standards, highlighted where on the Porsche CofC it exceeds these.

Has anyone else had this recently. I do not get how they can suddenly back track like this?

Just double checked my 02 S and still is ULEZ exempt.

  4. Not sure why you are going into that area but if you can inspect it. Has the oil been replaced annually? If ok leave alone, if showing wear replace, make a note of miles and look to replace again in the future. As this point in time in the cars life  (it’s not let go yet) I suspect it’s ok and best left alone.

    Ears

MKII no ears. Seemed to have sorted out the smog filled cabin. 😂🤙🏻

    Ears

Sorry about pics. Best I could rip from fleabay. Winters here and the prices for hardtops is at max. 1k cheapest.😬🤙🏻

Didn't know some hard tops have ears! Mines a Mk II Lapiz blue then. I really like the fit especially atm 🥶 to me it stiffens the car and with less road noise feels like a different drive.

  6. Yes worth having and it’s not expensive to replace the condensers, dryer and re-gas. Once replaced fit front grills and you’ll have no more problems. For instance top down is  great but if you have to do motorway miles in the heat it’s very noisy & fatiguing with the top down. Also takes all the moisture when steamed up in the winter. It’s more common to have it fitted so I would keep looking as costly to retrofit.

To put in Porsche language, a 22B would be a GT3 to the 911 range or a GT4 to the Cayman, not just an up spec'd 986 from the regular options list.  But I do agree ¼ million quid for a scooby!!!  May be a Gp A Prodrive rally car.  A Prodrive P1 even with reasonable use will fetch stupid money but they were pretty special like the 22B but only 20% of the figure put on that 22B.  Both were around twice the price of the regular car and very limited in volume when they were new.  A Scooby comparison for the 550 might might be an RB5 or a Catalunya.  They are nicely spec'd cars and so command a small price premium but 'go' much the same as a standard one.

Anyway, I am curious as to why you find it difficult to understand me @EXY?  We've argued with each other from the same side more than once. 😕

The Prodrive Performance Pack was an approved Subaru mod that could be fitted to any WRX & STi. Think it cost around £1200 at the time and boosted bhp by 40 and with AWD cornered on rails. Great car.

I honestly believe that prices like these will be few and far between in the not so distant future.

ALSO the 550 in question within this thread has 52,000 miles, that's FIFTY TWO THOUSAND, factory fresh and pampered (sketchy SH Allegedly) it most certainly is not, still a nice car but please do not drink the cool aid.

An old Impreza that hasn’t been ragged to within an inch of its life is very rare thing indeed. I knew I shouldn’t have sold my blobeye 😞

Yep, nothing to do with Europe, but I know leavers are now desperate for any evidence that the decision was a good one.

Whats the justification for the 986 being so much more than the 987?

Of course it does but it doesn't necessarily correspond to the condition of the car.

Only if you’ve changed everything mechanical that deteriorates due to the wear and tear of high mileage. Think about all those buried deep bearings, shafts, seals etc, etc. they will have greater wear. Far better to pay a bit more for a well maintained low miler imho. If you could compare 2 986 cars, same year, same condition, one on 40K mikes, one on 140K miles I bet there would be as much as 5K difference in the selling price. The market will always determine value not the owner.

How do they get on? Respectable price, some disappointments, totally unpredictable?

So many variables m, time of year being one. I’ve had a lot of success selling motorbikes this way as you can always put a hidden reserve.

  12. My 986 was spec’d with a hard top and it’s a great option especially if you park outside during winter. Personally I don’t like freezing my nuts off when the temp is down below 10 degrees so putting the hard top on is not a hinderance for the 3/4 months over winter. I also think it makes the cabin a lot quieter and changes the cars handling characteristics so it feels like a different drive. Also if you get a cheap rack off eBay it doesn’t take up much room to store. Biggest problem is getting SWMBO to help fit and remove.

    MInes a 98 2.5 double row 2.5 on 110,000 miles now.

I paid £4,000 for the (then) 20 year old car four and a half years ago, I took the view that if it lasted a couple of years and then self destructed, then that would have been a fair result even if the resulting car was now worthless - two years of Porsche ownership for about £40 per week was a big tick on my bucket list.

However, I also figured that it would still have a fair amount of value left in it even as a rolling chassis with a blown engine, so that residual value would reduce the weekly capital cost of ownership even more - possibly down to  £20-£30 per week.

If it lasted longer than two years  (which it has) then in my mind,  I was effectively getting free motoring as I'd mentally written off the value of the car after two years so any any resulting years were freebies (if you see what I mean)

At the moment, it's going well and still worth about £4k (I think), so in terms of capital expended, it's cost me almost nothing for those four years of pleasure and occasional frustration.

If the IMS goes bang now, then so be it ... the car owes me nothing.

One things for sure, is that if I'd bought, say a £15k "run of the mill" car four years ago, I would definitely have watched more than £4k disappear into the ether in depreciation, but with the Porsche bought at that price, I doubt if it's depreciated much, if at all.

These man maths work for me. Mines a  02 3.2S so single row I assume and still the original bearing. Mine was on 39K miles now on 57K. I paid a bit more and had leased a Golf R before for 2 years for that same amount. So figured if it let go below 2 years of ownership I’d be out of pocket,  over 2 years happy days. Will have owned 5 years this Sep 😎
