  1. Had my MOT done yesterday...FAIL on hand brake not working. Only 3-4 weeks ago it was adjusted and was working correctly, now it looks as nothing happens, just as the cable snapped.

Had an advisory on pitted front disks but I know that anyway, waiting for the next service to replace disks and pads.

I changed the oil only 2.5k ago and nothing came out that time.

Think I have a plan, wait for the oil analysis results. Depending on what they are I’ll do 50 gentle miles and pull the oil filter. If that’s clear I’ll do some more miles then drop the sump. Obv if the analysis is bad news then maybe straight onto the rebuild, will take some advice in that instance.

Also send the filter to be analyzed, filter tells lots.

The fault with your procedure is that oil that you send to be analyzed has to be warm and mid flow, the microscopic metal particles float in the oil and the larger should be caught by the filter. If you won't follow this procedure the results has a good chance to be incorrect.

    Hello Everyone,

I've been noticing some complete throttle shutdown, maybe a second or two, then it's restored. I keep thinking my foot is coming off the petal, but tonight, I confirmed by looking down at the accelerator as it was happening. Definite cutout. Anyone ever experience this? Thanks in advance Bob,  2005 Boxster S 987.1

    Yes, still checking for possibilities.

My throttle box was replaced but didn't make any difference. The brake switch was replaced and all connectors on the ECU were cleaned. I have managed to drive the car X2 and had no issues.

Personal take I'd be calling the AA/RAC/Porsche Assist/GreenFlag etc at that point.

I dislike the gunk approach but would use it if I have to.

I went for a 2nd hand Porsche scissor jack and the tyre plug approach if I can/have to self-heal it.

Called Green Flag, arrived after 2h and took us home, a good 1h20min drive. I carry the water base gunk and a spare wheel, just in case.

I think that this set is better/easier to use than the one that you have suggested.

My 5series has a lovely wheel well where a space saver once sat but BMW decided we didn't need a spare so gave us tyre gunk. Then they decided that the wheel well would be a brilliant place to put the battery even though the original spot down the side of the boot was fine! Anyway I like a spare so bought a space saver and have carried it around in the boot for something like 8 years (two different cars) much to the amusement of several family members. To the point.... The other week I had a puncture and proudly took the space saver out and fitted it only to find it was as flat as a pancake! Thankfully I also had an electric pump with me. "There you go - I told you that would be useful" I proudly said to my wife.

I had the rear blowing while going out with friends, no gunk could help, since I carry a spare wheel so can help myself out of troubles.

  6. Yes it will, however, you will need a bunch of bungees and a rubber mat to hold the removed wheel on the rear bonnet. There is an article about it somewhere here but unfortunately i could not find it.

  7. Costley day today.

X2 Goodyer Eagle at the front and stirring wheel from 'Royal Stirring Wheels'.

The old tyres were 2016 and had ~ 3.5mm left on them but 1 had a cut on the side wall and the other started to show cracks inside the threads, handling so much better now. The stirring wheel looks so much better and is more comfortable for my old hands to hold, shame that I didn't do it sooner, recommended.

  8. Thank you.

I have a problem to visualize the installation. Where the unit sits? Is it accessible? All I can see is a black box with some cables.

I've had my 2005S for 3 years & done 30,000 miles taking the car up near 75,000. I'm approaching 69 yrs old & get huge pleasure from the Boxster. Unless I have a lottery win, this'll be my last car.

I have the car for 5-6 years and enjoy every minute I drive it. Have no intentions to sell the car anytime soon, however, am looking to add a Corvette or another American classic.

  10. Thank you.

I know about this option but after sinking ~ £7K into the car during the last 3 months I was looking for a low cost option. To the best of my knowledge Porsche's solution is ~ 1.7K and there must be a point where enough is enough, anyway, I need to replace the front tires and comes June probably the front disks and pads.

    Safety first toys later.

  11. A short question.

Will the PCM 3.1 fitted in the 987.2 can be a straight replacement to PCM 2.1 (987.1)? The idea is to retain the CD box functionality while having Bluetooth?

    Thanks

The cruise retro kit 99704490300 is £327 new , before discount, from a Porsche Centre.

Yes it needs to be PIWIS coded and there are people who can help with that.

This is not a bad price, when i bought mine I think that it was ~ £250 total.

  13. Picked up the car today after repairing the seals and respraying the the driver's door as the paint was dull and started to flake. The painters did what they had to do but also decided that the car will look much better if the front wings also get a coat, so they did it without an extra charge (OK, they have charged an extra £4.40 on top of what we agreed). Then, they called and offered to polish the whole car for £150+vat, it was a very simple decision.

The car does look as it has never looked before, it wasn't cheap but it I enjoy it.

It would have to be very cheap for me to even get near it with a barge pole.

    Why?

I have been infected with a bug and feels that I want to own a Corvette, most if not all are import. What is the problem? Please explain.

    Thanks
