  1. Also worth checking, believe it or not, not every insurance policy covers you if car is sorned.
  2. Coming out under £30 for 5 days, not too shabby. Not sure if that is third party though.
  3. Waiting on my own insurer getting back to me, Aviva. Could not find any way of getting customer service on phone, grrr, so had to email them.
  4. Yes, 3rd party only which I'm not comfortable with, sods law and all that.... Having a half decent hire car will be around £250 for a couple of days, might be the way to go.
  5. So best to add as a named driver on FIL's insurance? Not sure he would want the "perceived" hassle of that, but could ask.
  6. Anyone recommend where I can get insurance for Lynn's fathers car for around 5 days? We have friends coming from Barbados to stay with us a few days and we will do a few nights in the Highlands with them, as my current car is only 2 seats it's either hire a car or borrow Lynn's dads. My insurance covers me for other cars, but only emergency/short term so wondering if there are companies that would insure on a car I don't own short term.
  7. Sounds like a decent bloke who takes his moral responsibilities seriously and knows where his obligations lie. Actually, upon reflection he sounds like a twunt.
  8. Have you contacted the boys parents and asked them to cover the costs?
  9. Dog probably doesn’t even have a license, though may be insured.
  10. I'd be more worried about the dog tracking him down and kicking the shyate out of him, it's obviously a tough B'stard.
  11. The dog ran off after being hit by a Macan?
  12. Always worth it when you claim, never worth it when you don't. 😉 As I said, warranties make money for those selling them so the odds are on your side if you decide not to warranty. I've never had an extended warranty on a car or bike and been lucky never to have been hit with a big bill that a warranty would have covered. In 41 years of owning bikes and cars, I shudder to think what it would have cost me had I taken out extended warranties on them. So saying, had I kept the 718 I would have been taking the Porsche warranty. A few months before selling it had £1200 of warranty work done by the supplying OPC and the nature of the incident and subsequent conversation with Porsche would have had the car staying in the warranty network as long as I owned it.
  13. A warranty and a service plan are two totally different things. For servicing I simply have a separate account into which I pay X amount a month, knowing it will cover the cost of the service come the time. Warranties make whoever sells them money, that is why they are available, so basically the odds are in your favour. Of course, that doesn’t help if you do get a big bill which WOULD have been covered under a warranty. I'm not sure if your car would qualify for an OPC warranty, if so it needs to go through the 111 point check and anything that does not meed Porsche criteria would acquire to be addressed before a warranty would be sold. If buying an aftermarket warranty, you need to be sure it will provide suitable cover. If I was confident I had a good car I would just put the monthly cost of the warranty into the same account as the service and build up a "slush" fund so to speak. You pays your money, you takes your chances...........
  14. Don't tell them and SORN it, then your cover will be invalid. I'd imagine it would be one of the first things they would check in the event of a claim and a get out of jail free card for them.
  15. A lot of insurers do not allow you to sorn the car, may be cheaper just to pay the 6 months or so VED?
  16. Why would you consider claiming with a £500 excess? I have a non fault claim on my bike policy, another rider ran into the back of me, caught on video and he admitted liability, it has still raised my cars and bike premiums slightly.
  17. Cheers. Air seems the best solution, getting access to it may require a bit of thought.
  18. No, it was quite a quick look as weather was closing in and I had nothing suitable to hand. Is something like this advisable to use? Bit wary of poking anything down the drain holes tbh. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Herco-Single-Trombone-Nylon-Brush/dp/B000K3E9KO/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=trombone+cleaner&qid=1579044076&sr=8-3
  19. Having noticed a bit of condensation in the car over the last couple of weeks I decided as a precautionary measure to check the soft top drains. I'd already had a good feel around the carpets and there was absolutely no sign of moisture and to be fair my DD Corsa has been worse than the Porsche, but I felt it was worth doing for peace of mind. Please bear in mind this is simply what I have done to satisfy myself that the drains were clear. So first off all I opened the hood until it reached the point it was as far down as possible until the two side (tonneau?) flaps wanted to start to close. A wee bit of practice had them fully open at the right position. Once opened, it is not immediately apparent where the drain holes are as they are covered by flexible tubing as shown below. In the above pic, the drain hole is to the front of the flexible tubing on the left as you look at it. You need to reach in and "tuck" the flexible tubing out of the way to allow the drain hole to be seen, as in the next pic. This was hard to get a torch in to give light whilst taking a pic as I was on my own, however if you look to the far left you can see the maglite torch, follow the beam down and you will see the drain hole illuminated. Now it was a case of seeing what I had it the garage I could utilise and voila; I managed to insert the end of the flexible funnel into the drain hole whilst ensuring the flexible tubing normally covering it was still pushed to one side. Now it was simply a case of pouring a little water into the funnel to check it was not blocked and was running out underneath the car. Once I was sure there was no blockage I slowly emptied the bottle of water into the funnel, refilled the bottle and repeated. Video below. Once you are satisfied the drains are clear it is simply a case of ensuring the flexible tubes are reinstated in their original positions and close the hood.
