sorry bud, I have only just picked this up. Did you get it sorted?

Yes all done - much better but still some left hand wandering, probably the driver being over picky considering the roads! I never realised how badly it wa handling until it's set up correctly - its night and day!

Road camber.  It took me some time to work it out and then when I went to France and it wandered to the right as the crown of the road goes the other way when you drive on the right...  Should only be a small amount of pressure on the steering wheel to keep it straight, if it needs lots of input get the geo rechecked.

Yeah it’s not camber - that’s all ruled out had geo done twice. I’m getting a sore right hand from holding the right hand side of the wheel all the time 😂😂 hopefully sorted today.

My car also wanders to the left and that's after Lee changed most of the suspension with alignment

I might be able to come and meet you if you want a newbie introduction ... Will b my first meetup 😁

@Cheddar Bob I’m here for at least the next hour or so, hoping the cafe opens as there’s no sign of anyone. If you come down I’ll buy you a brew if it’s open!

  3. Took a trip to see Lee at Cotswold Porsche Specialists, cracking weather for the drive.

My first trip to see Lee and his gang and I have to say what a top guy, I had new BREMBO front discs and pads at a cracking price - Wheel alignment done which has thrown up a potential  RHF Control Arm (tuning fork) requirement (its knocking) so back again tomorrow for that to be done, see if we can figure out why the car wants to wander left despite the wheel alignment being 100% in the green! The car feels 100% better already, prior to the visit at motorway speeds the handling was a bit  wooly and on the country roads it felt like gravel on every corner - on the way home wow it feels so much better and firmly planted  - oh and The Chow Shed is open, takeaway only but there's a bench outside!

  4. Fresh MOT - 2 advisories:

    1. Brake pipe covered in grease or other material - a usual Boxster observation

    2. Offside Rear (inner/outer sill/lip corroded) - seems some light corrosion around the area of the jacking point which I will monitor

Overall for a 17 yr old 102,000 mile car I think it did well, particularly in the emissions area where It was really well below any potential issues.

  5. Added a reversing camera - £15 from Amazon and pretty straight forward, used the number plate light screw to secure it, power feed off the reverse light/rear cluster and fed the cable through the bumper, trunk, clamshell and into the cabin, under centre console to the head unit. Just need to visit a car park with lines to align the camera head.

You will also need a length of wire to make the switched live to the fuse box, also connect the Bose box to the switched live and ground. A dremel or similar to cut out the excess plastic and cross member from the opening, plenty of guides online and plenty of patience. Porsche don’t make it easy to simply switch out the head unit especially with Bose fitted, I’m happy I’ve done it but it’s not just a simple plug and play.

There are cheaper kits out there but this one was recommended by an audio install friend, works fine.

Are you able to keep the cup holders ? , as the trim I purchased when I switched to a double din unit the item specifically listed it saying will not fit with cup holders.

@dunks yes I kept the cup holders - the whole fitting kit was a pain in the ar*e but I am done.

Points - the InCarTech kit isn't great, the double din cage is plastic and whilst it fits great (after you trim the current opening) there is a fair bit of adjusting to get it to be secure. I used a DAB splitter and a Fakra adaptor, it works great ( I live semi rural and it auto tuned loads of DAB stations) and I didn't need to power it, it was plug and play, simply tucked the power cable away. The Bose adaptor box is as simple plug and play although you have to power it. I ran a switched live from the fuse box with an adaptor to the head unit and the Bose adaptor.

Apologies for the stay of the car inside - needs a good clean.

It didn’t say I can’t but I’ll find out once it arrives - I’ll drop a few more posts on the progress and let you know.

  9. So after having the 4 wheel alignment readjusted as it was still slightly out I went for a spin in the sunshine ...yes actual sunshine in Wiltshire, although it was sporadic - I took a spin to one of the regular haunts for the South West member to Cheddar Gorge, I have never been before despite living less than an hour away for the last 5 years! I had a cracking brunch at the Lion Rock Tea Rooms, highly recommend the Eggs Benedict even though they're not on the menu they're happy to knock them up - the Jaffa Cake Hot Chocolate was amazing!

Anyway I got the car a little bit dirty but ill leave it for the accident repairer to clean on Wednesday when she goes in for her scratch repair - Fantastic drive from Longleat through the gorge and back with Van 'The Man' Morrison blasting out with the roof down 🙂

  10. So I’m a keen weather watcher as every soft top owner is in the winter......but I have to say the Met Office let me down last night and I didn’t cover the car.....

    Ruk8moH.jpg

So after it thawed I took it for a clean.....and it rained on the way home......so after it dried I cleaned it again and covered it up.......tomorrow looks sunny ......I hope the Met Office don’t tuck me up again!

  11. Had a deluge of water come in while getting washed today - drivers window wasn't sealing properly. Opened the roof and windows a few times to find out the issue, side rubbers not seating properly and the window needs to be adjust up about 5mm - will sort the window height next weekend when the required Torx socket arrives but for now I remembered a tip from good old Ed China about packing the rubber out to seal correctly - I didn't have any small rubber tubing so for now I slotted a brawl plug behind the rubber to push it out and stop it squashing when the roof and window seal.

The door card carpet was soaking at the bottom, once it was off the membrane and seals are all pretty untouched which was a suprise and all sealed very well - the water was simply running down the inside of the window to the bottom of the door and soaking the carpet trim.

    The offending article:

With the raw plug in place - will be swapped as soon as I get some rubber.

Good job the Ex left her hairdryer behind!

Door card requires a couple of new clips, its been off before and 2 had broken -  also missing 1 x screw behind the door handle and 1 x bolt behind the airbag logo!

Didnt take any pictures I am afraid but if you already have a cd changer definitely one of the simplest upgrades you could do. Unclip cd changer, remove, plug cd changer fibre cable into new blutooth device,  splice black device to brown cd changer wire then power wires to the red device wire and you have bluetooth!

If you are also running the mic, you will see the big plastic gromit to the left of the battery, just puncture this (i used a bradle and pushed through a coat hanger) you will then see just above the accelerator pedal where this enters the car. Pull through the mic cable and place where you want.

I think it may be a little more involved if you have no cd changer but for the cost and functionality, I would definitely recommend it!

Have you a link to the device you bought please? I have a 986 but I’m guessing it’s the same 🙂

  13. Well after a week of ownership but being away most of the week I finally got to give it a good clean - 16 years and it has some battle scars but overall it looks well. The light makes it look far better than it is honestly! Changed the number plate bulbs as one was flickering, new aero wiper blades as the old pair where useless but I’ve noticed a crack in the windscreen, this is a bonus as I can now get the screen which I reckon is original swapped out by the insurance company. Tried to remove the radio but alas had to order some removal tools, need to have a look see why the “sound” button isn’t working. Interior is pretty much immaculate but I’ll get some pics another time.

    It’s blue not black 😀
