  1. renewals are always massively inflated, in the hopes that people will just accept them. you always have to go on comparison sites. Every single year. i think in my 15 years of driving so far, i have changed insurer every year - sometimes i'll go back to previous insurers (I've had 4 previous policies with esure, for example) but i have never stuck with an insurer for more than a year. currently my daily is now insured with M&S bank. who i didnt even know did insurance until they popped up on a price comparison site. loyalty in car insurance means absolutely diddly squat. same as car breakdown recovery actually, i remember a story a few years back of some old dear who was paying like, £500 a year for RAC cover because she had just auto renewed with them for about 15 years straight.
  2. without going into specifics, i'd declare maybe, 25% of those things i think.
  3. good write up, might well use it in the future, How easy is it to install 987 seats in a 986? always thought my full electric 986 seats could do with being 2 inches lower, which i understand the manual 987 seats are...
  4. how much would it be to add dads car onto your policy for the period of time you need it? i'm just thinking, surely its a fairly common thing to do if you want to give a car a thorough test drive before buying it, you might need to insure yourself on it for a few days first. might be cheaper than you think, given your own insurer will know you can't be driving your own car while you're driving another car. or even phone up to swap your usual car for your dads car, in which case you might even get a refund if dads car is less risky than your current car. then swap back when you're done. though, this would, i guess, leave your current car uninsured for a few days, so might not be preferable unless you can lock it away in a garage or something. but long story short, i'd definitely phone your insurer and see if they can help. another thought - take out a separate policy to start the day before the holiday, then cancel it when you're done. you'll still be in the cooling off period, so might only have to pay an admin charge of £30 or so.
  5. well even if it is an extra £100 a year for the next 5 years, thats still comparable to paying the £570 now. but i dont think it'll be that much, i'd guess your premium is already pretty cheap. i had (well my wife had) a fault claim when she went into the back of someone on the A34, and wrote off my 330d. total cost of the claim would have been about £5000 i'd guess. and to be honest, i didnt notice any rise in premium this year, it was about £350, same as the year before. and i certainly wasn't 13 yrs protected NCB. the only reason i wouldnt claim is if the cost of repair was comparable to my excess, but if you have £250 of free excess cover i'd definitely do it.
  6. i'd probably claim, thats whats insurance is for. £570 worth of repairs done for just £100 sounds like a good deal to me, i doubt your premium would go up that much if you 13 years protected NCD.
