  1. Ive driven round Spa & Nurburgring in a Hybrid KN; quite good; tyres were the limiting factor. Slicks would be fun!

(BTW, the KN was ferrying the GT3 Cup car on a BJ  trailer) I did take off the the trailer for the track!

The bracket and extinguisher are parts 9. 10. 11. 12. 13 in the parts page posted by @iborguk about 8 posts up.  Will cost upwards of £600 in parts alone, that's a lot of dosh for an extinguisher...

ouch...!  comes free with the CS pack....and roll cage, and 2 x 6pt harnesses

  3. GT3 in clubsport spec has a fire extinguisher in the passenger foot well, with a 'bespoke' bracket; if you want the part number I can get it.

    its rechargeable - £286+VAT

    new one is £292 +VAT

I need to get one bought, as I used mine on the kitchen fire....

  4. I've had the car 7 years; I can't see selling it

I've never had a car for this length of time - it's still an occasion - squeezing into the carbon buckets, clunking engine / flywheel, minimal sound deadening , navigating out of the garage peering through the roll cage....

200mph is fast enough for me...

I've had a 996 CS GT3 & and a 997 GT3(factory Cup Car), and they all have the same DNA.

I umm'd & I erred when the 992 came out; I had an option to buy; I'm sure it takes the game on further, but the 991 ticks all the boxes for me !

I'll only do 3/4 track days a year, but will also be a semi daily driver doing 5k miles per year. *I know there is no sensible logic in doing that.

    hell, I'm over 47K in my 991 GT3!

Mr Button had my car for a year from new.... nicely run in 🤪

  6. yes I did !

it was definitely a 1.0 hybrid!

Supercharged 6 cylinder with light hybrid.

As hybrids go, it was pretty limp; the battery did give a nice punch, but not like later models.

Saying that, I did tow a Brian James trailer with a 997 Cup car on the back, 8 spare wheels, lots of kit, and 4 up inside, all the way to Spa!

    Very well appointed too.

It also did handle well on track - surprised a fair few cars at Donny & Spa

  7. If you ever get the chance to drive one of the 911GT3's you will experience something quite different to a 'normal 911'

Not knocking the std 911, its great (especially the Turbo's) but the GT's really are different.

  8. Move to Watford; 3 x Shell garages within 5 miles of each other & Tesco sell their rocket fuel locally - not that I've tried it...

GT3 has had exclusively Shell V Power over the past 8 years

Scoob runs Shell V power exclusively

X5 runs 50:50 Shell norm diesel & Sainsbury's bog diesel

  9. When we bought the F15 X5 I machine polished it, and ceramic coated it myself.

Took me two days - most of that was the refinement of the paint, as that is where the shine is.

( many years ago, I spent a week with Mr Spears learning the basics of machine polishing, paint correction etc)

It lasted over 3 years (probably longer, but we sold it at 3 yrs)

Even on a brand new car I can guarantee there are some imperfections present.

Going back even further, when I bought a white 997 C2S from Silverstone, I had it machine polished - asked the dealership to do no prep at all.

Gurcharn spent about 15 hours polishing it ( http://www.elitedetailing.co.uk )

the difference was obvious - and that was just a wax coat.

I'm going to do the G05 X5 at some stage - just too busy at work at the mo!

    Thanks for the input all!

The problem is more that I can't sell my car (or at least transfer title) until I have a valid V5C form in my hand. The resolution I have come to is that if it comes to the end of July I'll buy the Macan regardless (I have signed the contract subject to completing by the end of the month) and the buyer has extended their offer until mid Aug. So it's all still on but I need to wait longer.

    2 things I'm now pondering...

    1) As I have a couple/several weeks to wait, do I get some decent pics and privately offer my car for sale and try to get more for it that the dealer? I've only agreed verbally to sell to them / not signed anything

    2) In terms of the extras being offered to me by the Porsche dealer, has anyone found any of the following to be worth it:

    - Wheel and Tyre Insurance: £585 (2yrs) or £675 (3 yrs). It covers 10 incidents of wheel damage (curbing or worse)and 5 incidents of tyre damage.

    - Swissvax Treatment: £595 (This is an interior and exterior protection treatment, it consists of a two stage application process with the final stage being a hand poured high Carnuba wax content polish to help protect your car from every day grime such as tree sap and bird lime ingression into the paintwork, whilst it still needs to be washed it will help your car remain in better condition.
In addition to the exterior treatment the carpet areas will receive a scotchguard type of treatment to help repel dirt and moisture and finally the leather will be treated to replenish natural oils help it remain supple. It comes with a kit for re-application you can do yourself (enough for 3 years).

    - Porsche Car Connect £266 / yr (inc tracking)

    Many thanks!

Honestly, I wouldn't Swissvax the car - its still just a wax; I'd be getting it ceramic coated personally.

Wheel & tyre - I've gone for it on most of my recent cars - price was similar to yours.

I've had more than my monies worth out of it.

Example - picked up two punctures at the same time (roofer on house next door dropped nails...) - recovered into OPC, they said there was to be a significant difference in the tread depth, so fitted 4 tyres, all under the tyre insurance package...4 x Cup 2 N1 for a GT3 aint cheap !  Plus with center locks, I trust them not to feck it up

all Cayenne's are tips, our diesel is, but it runs ok TBH

As far as the older Hybrid Cayenne's they did about 20 miles max on electric, complete WOT in my opinion

Can't wait to see what the full electric Macan might be in due course though

    true; I had one.

the electric part was really there for a torque fill, as the petrol engine was a V6 supercharger (from Audi...)

Mine did a lot of towing duty - inc towing the cup car to Spa & the Ring.

  12. yep; its a good engine - especially when its remapped :)

    Car handles pretty well too

Same here pushchair gone, bikes now fill the boot !

only real gripe is that it is quite wide; Watfords carparks were built in the 70's when cars were much smaller; we struggle getting into some car parks due to the bloody stupid concrete curbs they use.  All the wheels are mashed

  13. Good review;

    I've had a couple of KN's - Turbo & Hybrid.

Both cars were brilliant - hybrid towing the Cup Car all over UK & Europe, Turbo hauling range rovers out of 3 foot deep snow & bloody last !

when we were looking for a family car 4 years ago, it was down to the KN and the X5.

Porsche couldn't get anywhere near the X5 on pricing (not surprising when BMW were gouging the price on the X5 - over 10K difference), and the X5 we were looking at had the third row of seats, which has been used more than I thought.

But, we are now on the lookout for a replacement.  New X5 is bigger again, and significantly more expensive than the old model.

We don't need to carry the amount of cr*p we used to  (double pushchair and associated twin baby stuff).

Not a fan of the X3

KN probably a bit big, so that puts us into the Macan.

Would love a Taycan but its predominantly the wifes car, and she thought the Taycan felt huge.

    Decisions, decisions...!

might just hold onto the X5 - over the 4 years, its needed two front tyres.  Thats it !

(and now it will probably break down spectacularly !)

  14. A friend of a friend is looking to buy a Macan - new;

Do OPCs discount these models ?

Any specific variant/ trim that attracts the greatest discount?

(The guy in question is a serial haggler  -  the more he can get off the happier he will be !)

he also wants it in Mamba green....
