topradio
Having seen Ringer250's car at Castle Hedingham I decided that I wanted to fit the GTS rear diffuser to my car. So a few weeks ago these turned up I had read that it is easier to do this job by removing the bumper and I have to say that I think doing it this way saved a lot of struggling with the clips etc. Started off by removing the five small screws on the leading edge of the spoiler and removing the cover This revealed two nuts that secure the rest of the spoiler to the mechanism I then removed the tail lights by unscrewing the single bolt in the boot and pulling the lamp out. I used a tip that I found on another forum which was to use a cable tie in a loop around the rear of the lamp to pull it cleanly out of its mounting. Next it was just a case of removing the 2 screws on each side behind the lamps, the two from below the spoiler, two from the wheel well on each side, two from behind the bumper near the exhaust exit and two more each side underneath the diffuser. The bumper then could be pulled free on each side After disconnecting the multi plug for the PDC etc. I was able to remove the complete bumper and diffuser revealing the inner workings of the rear of the car which I think are a work of art in themselves. I then unclipped the PDC sensors & the various fixings that secure the diffuser to the rest of the bumper This is the rear part of the old diffuser that clips back in place to secure the new parts. And this is the bumper with the diffuser completely removed. I was a little surprised at the amount of gravel rash on the bottom corner of the bumper after 12000 miles but I don't suppose you can expect to make an omelette without .................................etc. Reassembly was basically the reverse of above and this is a shot of the completed assembly before I fitted it back to the car. The exhaust tailpipe was showing signs that I had not polished it in 12k miles so with a little elbow grease I made it acceptable. I would like to perhaps get this re-chromed in the future but as its welded in place, this will require grinding it off and welding back on. And this is the finished job back on the car. I reckon that the whole job took about three hours including photos and coffee - so not too bad. Ringer250
Top radio - Great "how to". Glad I was able to help spend your money! Did you get the diffuser from UK or Tiele in Germany?
topradio
Hi Steve, yes I got it from your link - Poland IIRC although I understand that the part is now available in the UK. This may make you smile, while doing the write-up I couldn't for the life of me remember securing the PDC loom back to the bulkhead, then thinking more I really had no memory of reconnecting the parking sensor loom! So I went and checked their operation and, you guessed it, NO PDC just a warning triangle in the PCM screen. So in the last hour it was off with the bumper again, reconnect the loom and secure it and refit the bumper - 50 minutes, but then I had done it before I was obviously so excited to see the result of my work I had missed out a vital part. DJMC
Did you do a "before" photo? If so, could you please post Before and the After, so we can see the difference?
Ringer250
Yes, it was Poland. I checked and double checked the part numbers before and after the diffuser arrived just in case it was not a genuine part! Glad you remembered about the looms! Would have been very annoying discovering this the next time you drove it! Great write up and pics.
topradio
DJMC - I didn't do a before pic but I am sure that I have one somewhere, if I can find it I will post them together for comparison. Steve - they also have a sister company in Germany and they seem to be well respected so I was quite happy dealing with them.

The GTS diffuser hides the exhaust boxes which you can see through the gaps in the original diffuser. With apologies to Topradio for jumping in on this! DJMC
Is this the standard S rear? If so, is what I see through the gaps exhaust or suspension? Or a bit of both?... topradio's under... Edited January 2, 2016 by DJMC
topradio
Yes that's a standard S diffuser, you're seeing a bit of the exhaust and some suspension parts. Edited January 2, 2016 by topradio

You will we mostly the exhaust boxes albeit a slightly different shape if it is PSE or standard and a bit of suspension at both ends. rpn
Nice job and well done too. I presume you don't have rear parking sensors in yours?

topradio
rpn - yes I have PDC, I ordered the part with holes and mounts for the sensors - it was all plug and play. Having taken the bumper off (twice!) its definitely the way to do this mod rather than scrabbling around on the ground. Yes, looked under mine today, through the slots, and all I see are two exhaust boxes and no suspension. It's a Cayman, but I'd guess it's the same? Also looked at Ringer250's car today to compare. tcornet
Ed Looks great, good to read that you have plenty of experience removing the bumper now . I must confess that this method seems a far better way of changing the diffuser than leaving the bumper in situ as I did and trying to change it whilst underneath the car in very tight space. If I ever decide to put the old ones back, then I shall be following your approach. Cheers & great job Tony
topradio
Hi Tony. Yes I have kept the old parts in the unlikely event of trading the car to an OPC, I could imagine them being funny about the non-standard appearance and want to offer less based on that.
Araf
Or, like when I sold our last one, selling the rarer parts later yielded more money than leaving them on the car and selling the standard parts.
Toeside
So after eventually getting the correct parts (Porsche sent the standard diffusers with the part number for the GTS diffusers ) I set about fitting the diffusers. I looed at topradio's excellent thread but had noticed on an US thread that it could be done without removing the bumper. I started but soon decided that it was impossible and was looking to remove the bumper. However having sleeping on it I decided to tackle it again. After releasing the fastners and working from the corner of the diffusers at the rear wheel I started to free the clips working my way to the exhaust centre trim using fingers and trim tools and on the visible clips I opened them ad then fed strips of plastic in to stop them re-clipping. As with every one else the centre clips on the exhaust trim are difficult to access but I got some decent photo's to show others what you are trying to do. Centre trim with side diffuser removed close up The RED 'D' is representative of the diffuser clip when inserted and the exhaust trim tab fits into the 'D' You need to lever the tab out of the 'D'. I used a long shank flat crew driver to lever it out. Access is incredibly bad though. See the pic below showing the diffuser and clip in situ The fitted diffuser ! Certainly an awkward wee job!
