Started to give the Boxster a pre MOT check, I replaced all the rear suspension last year so I wasn’t expecting much to do. 😳

The front coffin arm bushes looked rough although no movement per say. The tuning fork rubbers looked a bit perished and there was a split in the steering ball joint, and I noticed one bump stop perished.
So I ordered a complete set of front suspension from Spyder performance and set about striping the old stuff out.
The caliper bolts came out with a lot of resistance except one which snapped.
I tried everything to get it out, heat etc ended up drilling it out and chasing the thread.
I soon found out both front springs were cracked and when I tried to remove the nut on the damper it was seized solid, my impact gun wouldn’t shift it.
So new dampers and springs from Heritage parts and a new set of top mounts and bearings from Spyder.
whilst it was all out I dropped the front subframe and replaced the brake pipe so just the rear over gearbox left to do….. another day perhaps.
Total cost £700

Quite a few of us have been there, many times if you keep moving them on, however you’ve got no labour charge, which makes it much sweeter!

@Halfordwill good work.  It is rewarding to get an almost 'as new' car in terms of suspension and the handling after a full geo too.  I makes a huge difference to the enjoyment of the car in my view anyway.

Collected repainted rear bumper PU from PaintFX and refitted along with replacement salvage exhaust tip heat shield, now with only 2 not 4 holes in it.  Happy with colour match as it was painted as an individual part.  Also learned that the rear PU comes off (if fixings aren't seized) and goes back on easier than the front one.

Just need to go an fill the tank (filling the company car conveniently earned me another Shell fuel reward today) and check for any issues.

Took Boxster for MOT & shock horror it failed on split CV joint boot on N/s outer! Am I right in thinking that it’s best to do both inner & outer @ same time? Any problems in doing this? Does this mean a full tracking reset?
Any thoughts welcome.

Well, I did mine without taking the shaft of the car and only disconnecting the trailing tuning for form the coffin arm, included striping and re-greasing the inboard CV joints, but it is a tough DIY task on drive with only axle stands and a trolley jack. All 4 boots took me about 8 hours first time out, but I could do it in half that with what I've learned from working on the car in the last 2½ years.

To be honest if one has gone they are all going so to take out the shaft it’s worth doing both.

Pedro s garage gives a good insight into the procedure, it’s not difficult if you have a few tools and can do some wrenching.

I didn’t remove the aluminium brace just the bottom coffin arm and you can wiggle the shaft out.
much easier to work with it on the bench, I think I got the bellows from car parts for less.

Just discovered the great effect of cleaning a convertible hood with a lint roller (75p for IKEA or available from eBay). So good on the Boxster I did Mrs ½cwt's Golf cabrio hood too, which until you do this you don't realise how much smaller a Boxster's hood really is!

Can you pm how much you paid as I’m thinking of doing the same with my rear and front bumpers, as you know I had similar damage on the back bumper, thanks

Took out and "serviced" the secondary air pump as it's been squealing on cold starts each morning. Pretty easy to remove, not a lot you can service but it was manky inside and I was able to repack the bearings. Once back together it was whisper quiet 👌

I took Viola to Cotsworld Porsche for a simple oil and filter change, air con pipes replacement and re-gas as well as an odd noise investigation. Lee was kind enough to allow me to supply the parts.

Noise was a water pump on its way out and the associated tensioners on the serpentine belt. A cost that i was not expecting. Grand total £1001 - gulp!!!

MOT next month.

I have been greeted by a spider's web on by driver's door mirror for the last several weeks.  Considering the reputation of Porsche suicide plastic I finally plucked up the courage to pop the mirror off the gimbal to evict the spider.  No spider and no broken plastic or mirror glass  😀

Ordered new spark plug tubes which arrived Thursday.

Set to fitting them today. Jacked car up, removed wheels, removed arch liner, took first coil pack off and…..

can’t find a tube to pull out. Turns out later cars don’t have spark plug tubes!

Actually spent time looking for my oil leak rather than just going off the internet, and it appears to be coming from where the drive shaft is on the drivers side. Looks like a diff seal has possibly failed.

Time to find an independent specialist to sort it for me

Just did.  5 lines for £184M what's the chance?  4.0 GTS coming on  🤞

I know the price of food and drugs has gone up but I think shifting 5 lines for £184M is a tough sell on the post furlough street corners.

Context, context, context...

Any how unless the price of a 4.0 GTS has been slashed to £7, then my winnings won't buy one for now...

Hi

I remember doing my 993 ones years back and it was a right PITA. How about these to make life easier?

I kept getting dual warning lights for abs and pasm , so after some research came to the conclusion it was the brake light switch , ordered a new one but while waiting for it I decided to  remove and clean up the old one , was a bit of a fiddle, but cleaned up and reset the plunger ,fingers crossed no lights when driving now , hope this helps anyone experiencing the same symptoms of flickering brake lights
