A-plan were very expensive and Greenlight couldn't even give me a quote and suggested i try Adrian Flux !  I ended up with locktons

I had that with Greenlight last year as they wouldn't insure me as it was my first Boxster/RWD sportscar. I'll try them again now I'm an experienced driver?

I had similar questions with various "specialists brokers". Even the comfortable ones were hundreds more expensive. I got a brilliant deal with ample cover/extra's for a 3rd of the price of Flux (with a mainstream insurer).

More expensive to repair apparently!

Interesting but also weird. I know the black edition is limited, and the roof would be harder to source, but in general the panels and engine are no different to another 987, which is just an older Boxster than the 981. Insurance is odd

The Porsche dealer did allude to the fact that if a 987 has a bump on the rear wings, it is very expensive to repair because the wing is one complete panel which includes the side sills going the full length of the car!

The 981 has a smaller rear wing panel as it is seperate from the side sills. Maybe this has something to do with the premium hike?

Certainly is. As a speculative buyer Lancaster quoted me £238 for a 2.7 987. Pretty good. When a I called a week later for a quote on a 3.2S of similar vintage and value they quoted over £800.

Conversely best quote for the 2.7 through the meerkat lot was £330, and for the S was..... £320. Eh?!

I have seen odd Insurance quirks. My 17 year old son (at the time) had a policy with a 3000 mile limit.  He then started driving to College and to see his girlfriend and we realised it needed to be more like 12000 when I went to renew all of our policies. They quoted me a price before I told them he needed to have 9000 more miles on the policy. When I told them the policy dropped in price by about £200 from memory. I queried this - not because I wanted to pay more but just to make sure they were doing the right thing as it seemed odd, 9000 more miles on the road = more exposure to risk surely?  They confirmed the price was correct and could not explain why it would be less. Yes I know he would gain more experience in those miles but also expose himself to risk at the same time?

I read a theory the other day that went low mileage cars might be higher risk because the drivers might be 'not keen' and therefore nervous drivers. Can't say I'm convinced but it's a notion.

Well my wife is a nervous driver, does about 1000 miles year, hits anything stationary in her path and still gets dirt cheap Insurance ?

Must resist in appropriate sexist generalisation comment.

My insurer wanted an extra £100 to insure my 987.2 Black Edition for the remaining 5 months compared to my former 981 GTS - go figure!?

That's madness

When I swapped the 56 plate 987 2.7  (value £10k) for the 981 S (faster, newer and 6 times the price!) it generated a refund in premium to me!

IIRC the 987 used to be circa £550 to £740 pa whereas the 981 is around £360 pa :)

My renewal letter popped through the letterbox yesterday morning from Aviva. Was thinking to myself how much has it gone up from last year, so didn't even bother opening it.

Opened the darn thing this afternoon only to be somewhat shocked that its just a few pounds more expensive then last year. £20 discount if I renew online too.

I need a lie down :)

For my 986 it was around £315 for the year from Locktons, annual mileage 5k. That included PCGB Membership (which I probably would have joined anyway). Plus UK & Euro breakdown cover. Add those two together (£70 + £70 ?), that makes it about £175 for the actual insurance.

My current broker is Elephant (for my everyday car) and of course, they transfer you to Admiral Multi Car, as you cant have two cars with Elephant. They quoted £370 for the Boxster, with no added benefits.

I gave my local A-Plan broker a go as well and after about an hour they rang back with "a really special deal" of £550 !!!!

I called my current insurer A-plan as my renewal is due. After the usual questions etc, they came back to me with the ... “insurance premiums have gone up” “insurance tax” slaes b*ll*x, etc but we can reduce the quote by...........

wait for it.....

54p

yes, a whole 54pence

called locktons based on the above post, they only insure to a max of 7500 miles per year and they wanted £400 more than my renewal !!!!!

Well, Boxster Renewal time. Churchill were a bargain last year when I switched over from my Saab. Up from £294 to £380 this year for reasons unclear from their call centre.

Locktons were ok. Simple to deal with and competitive when you consider the euro breakdown cover I also wanted to add and Porsche membership included. But, you don’t accumulate or retain NCB and I would be using two specialist car policies which I am sure would be a problem at some point as I am  named driver on my wife’s car, not the policy holder

Mr Meerkat sorted a great deal with GA and have all the cover I want, including Euro breakdown for £400 so very happy!

Having phoned around repeating the same questions time & time again, A-Plan gave me a call back 2 days before policy end and enquired if i was going to renew with them. I had bettered their price by £40 or so, so they offered to match it and for ease of renewal I went with A-Plan again on the Macan. Happy with the result.

My renewal with Locktons is due in December, I paid £300 last year with included breakdown UK/EU and PCGB membership, although I had already joined! - they don't use NCD so my man maths is telling me I need another car to maintain my max ncd  :)

I need a shopping trolley, was thinking something like a Honda Type R 2008-10 vintage but the seats look uncomfortable
