987.1 holding values inspite of...

I'm not posting to debate if the .2 is better than the .1 I'm just interested in why considering the reputation (deserved or not) the .1 had for bore score or IMS failure, how come the values still seem to be holding up so well?

Usually and especially in the terrifying tinterweb tw*tesphere of rumors, if something gets a reputation for fragility, its value plummets.

The 987.1 seems to fly in the face of that

Is that right and if it is, why?

Perception I think -it has the updated look and the 2.7 is pretty well regarded as the ‘safe’ option.

and I guess that the ratio of owners, to sad b*st*rds like us who roam the forums and research the cars first is quite low. If you read forums you’d never buy anything

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

And a 987.1 is a lot of car for the money whichever way you look at it.

Agreed...the 987 is a hell of a car for €11k +.

Ok...its not the fastest 0-60 when compared to some of today's uber fast hatches...but with that mid engine balance and its descent speed ..in the right hands driven properly they are bloody good fun and are still in my book a special, and dare i say it, still under rated car in most uneducated eyes !

I don't think you can get a better car for about £12k than a 987.1 Boxster, I'm very impressed with mine, can't believe it's so good for the money, far far better than what I was expecting, it's a hidden gem, shame about the stupidly high road tax though on the S!!!

Agreed!

Tax bands are hit and miss year by year. My 987.1S was in the £300 or so bracket.

My 2010 S is in the £300 tax - the high tax runs from Apr 06 to 09 i think

i know it’s a relatively small difference in the overall running costs but I refuse to pay £500+ a year for road tax

Im in that situation, thought about selling my 987S and looked around for viable alternatives for the same money and couldnt find anything close to what the Boxster does

I was reading a Car magazine last night from 2013 which had a feature on sports cars that were great buys. They highlighted a 2005 S at a specialist dealer still under OPC warranty and 55k miles for £11,500. Was that about 5 years of depreciation free motoring for someone ?!

The values of 987 generally seem to have improved over the last few years (987.2 as well). In fact I think used cars generally are on the up. Struggle to get my head around the later cars at £25k plus which is very close to 981 territory.

Thats good to know 9k off ebay last March for a 3.2S 2006 car and found a December date on something last week so should have the good bearing. Still smiling a year later having put another 10k on it without topping up the oil even. Took it into eporsh today for its annual check and MOT and hope I am still happy tomorrow....

Oh and it missed the tax change by four days when it was registered (which I had no idea about when I bought it as was looking at 986’s).

Almost on par with winning thr Lottery ?

Got  high spec 987.1 3.2S from a member on here for £10.5k, what a car.  In fairness I do miss the 4WD and extra power & noise of the 997 C4S that I traded 18 months earlier but you'd have to spend more like £30k to get one of those.  It's 80% of the experience for 30% of the cost.  Brilliant value cars.

Because the reality is these things dont affect that many cars really and Joe public isn't a geek to know. Did the mangled rear subframe, snapped timing chains, VANOS disasters, dropped swirl flaps which afflicted BMWs in the last 15 years cause their values to nose dive against the completion?

Wanted to upgrade from my MX5 to something a little more refined & road based, the 5 was road legal track day car but only used on the road on way to track. The 987 hasn't disappointed me 1 bit as yet & it's the first car for a long while that I want to just take out & drive & it I get back anywhere near what I paid if ever sell, that's a bonus.

Roll on the summer sun

Looks like ive just missed out on a raft of punters, just when ive decided to sell mine and leap into a RS60!! But agree ive really enjoyed the experience coming from my 986 S, which was a great car.

I think they are great cars too. I am just selling mine after 5 years since it doesn't get driven enough and I replaced the daily car with an Audi S4 so there is enough accel on a day to day basis.

It's a properly constructed convertible hence no scuttle shake, the handling is superb and despite the £500 road tax (Mar 2007 model), the overall running costs have been cheap. Serviced at Autotechnics three times (total £2,400 inc new condensers), new tyres (£840), insurance on average £250 a year (old fart). Worked out to just over a grand a year to have it on my drive. Depreciation fairly modest too since values have firmed up in the last couple of years.

Including petrol & depreciation, it's cost under a pound a mile all in for one of the best motoring experiences. Just a shame it only seats two and is not quite practical size wise as a daily driver else I'd keep it.

Paragon aren't exactly known for being bargain basement pricing wise. Indeed they are right at the top of the market pricing wise.
