After fitting the GPS adapter inside the new wheel which converts the new electronic signals to one's the 981will recognise; real easy, it's then just plug and play. All credit to the electronic engineering from GPS in China. And it looks stunning?. Your mods are great - and very interesting! But - I'm now curious, where did you buy the new steering wheel from please? I'm very happy with my SportDesign wheel, but the new MF wheel is i know excellent having had one on my 991.2. mneil
The wheel and airbag, 991.2/781 manual gearbox, was supplied by Sutton coldfield OPC, Nathan in parts is the person to liaise. If you are thinking of upgrading to a multi function wheel you will need to have your car electronics activated.
jayk
Did you get a before and after figure on the dyno? 30hp from a re-map sounds alot. Was this a fixed map uploaded or a custom tune? Nice job on the wheel, fitting a GT4 Wheel to mine tonight, and a GT4 Short shifter. There were three modifications made to the map and a dyno reading taken after each, the whole process took over 6 hours. that's my dyno chart, you can see the increases at the wheels, the most noticeable difference is the torque! mneil
To be honest, the only thing I notice is the improvement in the torque, so much more get up and go low down in the rev range.
mneil
Latest update: Lockdown having eased, the car was booked in last Tuesday 4th May 2021 back at AET motorsport for a session on their Dyno; this was where I took the car for its remap in Feb 2018. I fitted the car with equal length headers, 200 cell sports cats and modified exhaust outlet to each of the back boxes mid lockdown in 2020. The resulting Dyno print shows a much improved and a more linear power delivery, smoothing out the previous big dip in power around 3.5K to 4K. Results at the wheels are impressive 312whp and 268lbft. Depending on what % is used for transmission losses; 10% or 15%, could give a crank BHP figure in the region of 346 to 359 but as the Boxster has no front to back drive shaft, I would be more inclined to go with a more conservative 10% figure. 10% on a natural aspirated engine is no mean feat! After consultation with the tuners at AET; unless I go down the road of a fitting a Turbo, or an increase in displacement, that is about it! boxtastic
Wow - that torque curve is impressive! Must totally change how it drives.
daz05
When they map it are they effectively allowing more WOT up the revs. I've heard as standard we are held back and you can see it clear as day with one reader.

Anachronisms😰 WOT you talking Wide Open Throttle? The guys said after improving the breathing of the engine with bolt on parts, headers etc there is only so much they can do with ignition timing on a naturally aspirated engine and keep it reliable. They can't get into much else without spending big money. Hence fit a turbo or an increase in engine capacity. It really does pull well and I rarely take it above 5.5K now😃. It's the cheapest way for Porsche to change the output of the engine so makes sense. I'd be happy with a modest 340ish and a peakier feeling top end. They actually came out fine apparently but they did apply heat first, to be on the safe side. Think I was just lucky on a 2012 vehicle.
andygo
That steering wheel you fitted looks very much like the wheel I had on my 2017 Golf 7.5 R. I'd imagine a decent second hand one would fit. I'll bet a Porsche plastic airbag cover would fit as well. My 981 doesnt have the multi function switches though so might be a non starter.
