Some Advice on purchasing a 718 Boxter

Hi All,

Just joined BoXa.net.  I am looking to purhase a secondhand 718 Boxster for the Mrs.  I have seen one that is two years old with a reasonable spec for around £43k (15k miles).  However it's not with a Porsche dealership but being sold by an independent dealership (family owned). I just wanted to check if anyone had any advice in not purchasing from a dealer.

The car has everything on the Mrs wishlist (colour) and the dealer will be carry out the first 2 year service if I decide to go ahead.  Only only downside is that it has a years warranty left and will I have to purchase an extension with Porsche, can anyone advise how much these cost.

This will be our first Porsche (new to the Porsche family) so any other tips, advice to help with the purchase would be appreciated.

Thanks everytime.

I’d get the VIN and check with a Porsche dealer if there are any black marks against it. Seems odd for a two year old car to be at an independent dealer. I’d also get them to put it in for the service at a Porsche dealer as it may get tricky if a warranty claim arises. Extended warranty costs £200 for the check and then about £1500 for two years cover off the top of my head.

Hi Nobbie,

Thanks for your response, they are sending the vehicle to a Porsche dealer for a service. One of their dealership is a BMW garage and this vehicle came in as a part ex.  There are also going to perform a vehicle check which will be carried out by their BMW garage.

I can ask to see the full report once it has been serviced.

Why does it seemns odd? When a dealer takes a car in that isnt a make they sell they would offer it to the make of the cars dealer normally, the price offered might have been rubbish so they are going to have a go at selling it themselves?

Lots doing it at the moment as used cars are difficult to get hold of so taking all they can get just to put something on the forecourt?

Get them to have a 111 point check done by the Porsche dealer when it is being serviced.

This is what the OPC would do anyway if they were selling it and it has to clear this for Porsche to put a warranty on it. This way you know that when you buy the car it should (in theory) be as good as buying from the Porsche dealer.

111 point check and 2 years warranty with European recovery for a 987.2 was approx 2k.

as I am often heard to say. “Pay to play”.

I paid over the top for an specialist sale of my car (ultra low mileage, unicorn spec) and then I added the warranty but it’s a good feeling and from a Mates experience it’s a warranty worth having.
