If anyone wants to upgrade their std halogen bulbs I have a set of Philips X-treme ultinon led gen 2 for sale, they don't throw any errors, only 2 months old, don't need them now as I've sold my cayman

Hey @daz05 awesome video series :)

As i went through the steps i found out that the screws holding the cover to access the Xeons are different than what you showed in the video

those screws are the one way screws , as the name suggests they are to avoid tampering, ay ideas on how to open them without breaking stuff

picture for reference

thanks @daz05 @andygo and 1/2cwt :)

ordered  https://amzn.to/3phtR8M based on advise from another thread https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4-spyder/1259318-free-headlight-access-panel-screw-sets.html

"If you get a one-way screw remover / installer bit, you can back them out. I got this one in a pinch from my local hardware store, but it worked perfectly: https://amzn.to/3phtR8M
You want to remove the larger piece on the end (which is used to grab onto stripped screw heads) and just use the forked bit. You need to apply a good amount of even, direct force onto the screw while removing it, and go slow, otherwise you risk stripping material off the screw head. Each screw probably takes about 3-4 minutes to remove, but once they’re off you can replace them with the Phillips head screws I have listed above."

just in case someone come here searching for the answers

Costly solution but if it avoids burring off or drilling, bonus!

the way i see it is $21 saves me $1500 headlight :) so relatively cheap

Agree. Would these also do the job - clutch head screwdriver bits ? £6.

this might be worth a new thread but I have been keeping an eye of eBay for a replacement headlight unit as the corner has broken off mine and it looks meh.  There are a range of part numbers.  for example, mine are 981.163.123.05 and marked up with the code Z HSW XEN LV.  Lots of the ones on Ebay have a different end two numbers and are marked as Z HSW AFS LV.  Anyone know the differences and the corresponding part numbers?  My car is an S.

AFS = Adaptive Front Lighting System, so those are PDLS headlights I think.

Hi @daz05 I am thinking of doing this upgrade, but reading the reviews of the ballasts on Amazon there are a few people saying they haven’t lasted long or have blown the bulb. How are yours doing, any issues? May consider buying OEM but not sure where to get them from….

thanks

Andrew

Bulbs and ballasts arrived from Amazon today and got it done this afternoon - no errors and lights look much brighter. Can’t test it in the dark tonight as about to tuck into a bottle of red 😀

Hardest bit for me was working out how the metal bulb holder clips open - took a while to realise they need pushing in and moving to the side.

Thanks @daz05 for the video and giving me the confidence to do it.
