Gramps
Hi All. Finally got my engine cover off today to check the air filter and have a nosey. Anyone got any recommendations for a replacement air filter? I normally go for K&N but this poor sole is BMC I believe
Gramps
Soul not sole 🙄
Paul P
Obviously a personal choice but from what I have read there’s not any performance difference over stock - might get sone intake noise boost then for a once every 6 year part I would put a stock dealer supplied one in. likely not a popular choice on here since functional replacements can be had for less money but that’s what I would do.
Lonewolfgjp
I normally go for BMC and have fitted them to my 3 previous Boxsters. This time round I have bought k&n for the 981, mainly because I got a deal 😂 I don’t believe there are any performance gains but they do improve induction noise particularly if you de snorkel your car. My last BMC sounded particularly sweet on my 987.2 especially coupled with the pse😎
The Caped Crusader
My understanding is that any air filter that takes warm air from the engine bay, as opposed to cooler air from the air intake, reduces performance. This was highlighted in a Wheeler Dealers episode when Ant removed an aftermarket airfilter from a 996.

I would need modify or use any of those silly cone jobs 😂
edc
That filter whilst dirty will clean up and can be used again.

One thing I've learnt is don't do this sort of thing when it's as windy as it is today. I've got so much tree debris in the car and engine and roof compartments now. Just going to have to clean it all out again 🙄

Given it a clean and straightened it out a tad. It just looked so sorry for itself when I 1st took it out 👍
edc
It probably needs a light oiling after the wash.
iborguk
@GrampsIf it were mine it would get a light binning and replaced with OE, your car , your rules 😀👍

Ninesomething
I would bin that - reckon it's too far gone. AFAIK Sprint are the best because they don't need oiling but they last forever - you just tap them to clean them. They also sound better. That said I couldn't find one last time I wanted one.
