Worn ignition switch?

Got a 987.1 s manual, as I went to turn it off today the key came out while the engine was still running. Managed to put it back in and turn it off.

Had similar issues with my 986 a few years ago that turned out to be a worn ignition switch. Was a easy fix though,  a VW Passat part fitted  and the key barrel was ok so didn't have to change the blade.

Anyone had a similar problem and got any tips. Don't want to change the key blade if possible. Cheers.

I replaced one for EDC many years ago.

Only tips I have are:

- Determine the correct size screw bit and but an actual screwdriver in that size - using a bit on an extension is almost impossible as the hole is a tad to small for the torx bit.

 - Be careful on removal, and re-fit, not to damage the led ring it looks flimsy.

- Have something to clean your hands with as the stuff they wrap the wires in will have degraded.  You don't want to transfer the mess to your dash.

Straightforward job if you have the correct driver, a royal faff if you don't.
