GT4, weird noises?

Realise it's not technically a Boxster but this is one of the most useful places for info on the web.

Bought my GT4 in May, last few days it's developed a weird metallic clunk from the rear on uneven roads, though it was a snapped spring but they look to be intact as do the ARB drop links.

Any suggestions as to a possible cause very welcome. It's under warranty so going into local OPC later today.

Hi Paul. If it was a Boxster people would be saying coffin arms ball joint or usually the rear control arms. Not sure what a GT4 set up is like, has it got adjustable rear toe links? I had one of those come loose and made a bit of a clunk over rough surfaces.

Paul,

assume it’s a 981 GT4?
ive owned both versions, sorry I can’t help as i didn’t experience any weird noises from the rear. I, also not aware of any common faults with the rear set up

OPC seems like the right approach. Good luck

I had this; turned out to be loose (completely undone) brake calliper bolt.  Presumably loosened under the previous owner and not replaced.  Sound was rather like two hammers being banged together when going over bumps gradually got worse.  OPC failed to diagnose it twice but did replace the bolt and check the other callipers FOC when I told them what was wrong.

Thanks for the pointers, yes it’s a 981.

A boing noise would describe it well, not sure if it’s just flexing, no idea. Dropped it at OPC, I’m away for a few days so they can tinker with it to their hearts content.

It’s under warranty so hopefully should be sorted if there’s anything odd going on.

They always say that, while it's under warranty. ;)
