Exhaust Valve Fitting

Recommended Posts

Good morning all, I have finally had my exhaust delivered, it was fitted yesterday but the shop didn't want to install the vacuum lines for the valves, does anyone have an idiot guide for this or a write up (it's been covered before but can't find the right threads)

TIA

I used this guide for most of it. I took some additional pictures of where I took the vacuum feed from and I’ll get them uploaded for you later.

Used this one too. Thanks to @BBB for sharing when i was doing mine.

Only problem i had was with the vacuum line, mine doesn't seem to have a vacuum at the place you should be able to get one from, so mine are always on the LOUD setting.

Something i need to get round to fixing but that sound when you give it some revs is amazing!

You wont be disappointed.

I'm having the same problem, can't seem to find a vucuum line to tap into, where you did tap into? I've got a tiptronic if that makes any difference.

Hope you don't mind me re-using your photos @BBB

Yellow arrow is the valve that you need to tape into. Its just clipped on to the rail, gently pulling it upwards should release it.

Then you can tap into the feed with your supplied 'T' piece and blue pipe as below

This has worked for others but not for me. I have no vacuum there for some reason. May be the pipe coming into the valve is not connected at the other end. I need to investigate but need to get the car back on the road.

Hope that helps

What goes on to the empty port on the solenoid in the first pic?

It’s a confusing diagram. The new solenoid (that came with your kit) simply has vacuum in (after the one way valve) and vacuum out, i.e. only two connections. Vacuum out then splits and goes to each valve on your exhaust.

When you click your remote control, the new solenoid opens, allowing the vacuum from whichever source you use to move the valves inside the exhaust. By default the valves are open so the exhaust is noisy.

Have to admit I never got around to doing this mainly because I love the sound so much with valves open, but whilst car with specialist I asked to be sorted.

Slight issue has arisen with solenoid switch in that it’s not switching. Definitely have vacuum, one way valve is in correct way around but no vacuum being passed through switch?

I have contacted Top Gear directly for replacement part but welcome any input.

Thank you.

When you press the remote, you should hear the solenoid click. If it doesn’t then you either don’t have power to the solenoid or the solenoid is faulty, or the battery in the remote is flat.

The remote should flash a blue LED when you press it, that’s your first easy check

How is power routed to the solenoid? I would also check that you have 12V there, using a multimeter.

I’ve got a video from specialist showing an electrical meter on it and when you press remote light is changing colour, so it’s switching and  definitely have vacuum pre solenoid too.

He also checked one way valve is fitted the right way round too.

If the solenoid switch is showing it’s switching but not can only assume faulty solenoid switch?
