backinaporscheagain
My 987.2 s is overdue a service, and has recently displayed " check engine oil " I have topped up twice but the display has not changed. Do I need to keep adding oil until this display goes or is it something else? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
BBB
When you put the ignition key in, look at the oil level display graphic. That will tell you the oil level. If that is full then something else is going on.
Nobbie
Book it in for a service, maybe you have overfilled it?
backinaporscheagain
Thanks just tried this but can't see graphic. Do I have this on 987.2? Sorry if being thick!
½cwt
What happened to good old dipsticks? Oh yes, Porsche thought it a good idea to drop them in about 2004....

Yes you do Scroll through the dash menu & there’s an option that says “Oil”. Make sure you (well the car!) is on fairly level ground When you say you’ve topped up, how much did you put in? 2001pt
I’ve just checked the manual which says it takes 1.25 litres to fill between the min & max lines So as long as your top up was that or less you should be fine, any more and you may well need to take some out! But go through the dash menu & let the car tell you for sure
iborguk
Engine also needs to be up to normal operating temp and on to measure the oil on a 987.

backinaporscheagain
Thanks to all for your advice. I will measure oil level, just tried after 10 mins idle but still saying engine oil not warmed up. Guess will have to measure after trip. I have put 3 top up bottles of the correct mobil oil as well. If that’s the case I would very much suggest not starting the engine again until you’ve drained the whole lot out & started from scratch so you know exactly how much you’ve got in there
backinaporscheagain
I have been driving i like this for few weeks 😔
iborguk
Ouch. Wonder where that's going/gone to ? As above think you need to get it set to a known quantity and looked at if it's eating oil. All the best getting it sorted.
