Kev62
Hi all Help needed. I have just changed my battery from the original lead acid battery to an AGM Bosche battery. Does anyone in Oxfordshire have a PIWI system and know how to update the battery settings please.
RickLS7
I thought all 981's were AGM? It's not just the battery by the way, there are other items of hardware associated with this.

You don’t say what MY? Coding IME is only required on some MY cars. I recently changed mine MY13 2.7 and it didn’t need coding of any sort. Yes you had to do window closing sequence but that’s just a case of opening and closing the windows.

Interested in this. didn’t need coding in as much as didn’t throw up any errors or warnings ? As far as I understand it anything with agm battery should be told when a replacement battery is fitted This is so the car can work out the state of charge and do the “right thing”’ regarding stop/start (if I stop can I start again ) and adjust the charging as well its not just Porsche that have a routine for it lots (all) of manufacturers do - they wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t sone requirement for it That said from what I have heard largely nobody immediately notices anything if they don’t do it but I have heard that people note the stop start (and the coasting / sailing bit of pdk’s ) don’t seem to work as they expect sometimes. and perhaps things happen down the line (shorter battery life, or suddenly not charging etc ) who knows but surely all the manufacturers have gone to the time and expense of adding these routines one way or another (even my daughters fiat 500 had a “new battery sequence” they told me about when I replaced it - which was to tell the car it had a new battery - rather than just resetting things like windows etc ) There’s a bit of insight here ( all be it bmw but he does say others are similar ) this deceives registration and coding as separate things I suspect Porsche have a single process since it asks you battery type, capacity, part number and serial number when you do the procedure https://stevesorensenmechanical.com.au/blog/battery-registration-and-programing/ wish I could find a definitive set of info somewhere since this seems to be a common thing

I always turn Stop/Start off and when it’s not being used it’s always on a Ctek so I’ve never had issues. In fact I changed the battery just as a precaution as it was the original and seven yrs old. So obviously my routine probably does help longevity of the battery. If your a member of PCGB I would send an email to Steve Winters of Jaz fame who is the Boxster register guru 👍
RickLS7
Had a look and Porsche fitted both normal wet and AGM batteries on 981's. The PIWIS is required to select the battery type and if AGM: "After replacing the battery, the serial number and part number as well as the battery size andmanufacturer must be entered using the PIWIS Tester under: Gateway/Maintenance/repairs/Changebattery." Sorry, cant recommend a specialist in your area.
Kev62
Thanks to all for their help. I will update my post once the coding has been completed. For the record I have fitted the Bosh AGM battery which replaced the original OEM lead acid battery and I have had no faults as yet.
