Initial impressions….

Having driven the car for only 200 miles I thought I’d share my initial thoughts.

Build quality:

The build quality really is quite special!  The switch gear are solid feeling and surprisingly satisfying to use. The leather seats are really nice with decent leather and are very supportive and comfortable. The way all the doors and boots open and close is solid and feels robust. The car just feels solid and very well put together for every touch point.

Storage:

The soft coverings inside the interior storage is great and welcome to limit noise from anything in there. The clever way they use internal space for storage is just that…. Clever. There is so much storage for the size of the car. I especially like the two sliding covered storage spaces either side in the rear. Perfect for medical kit, speed detailer and dome micro fibres. Also, who doesn’t like the cup holders.

Instruments and gadgets:

Ergonomically it’s great and everything is where you expect it to be. It’s also very intuitive using the PCM unit. The PCM unit is great and having Bluetooth, nav etc is a necessity for me personally. Dual zone climate control should be standard… like a lot of other items such as auto dimming mirrors but ho hum. I can get the seat and steering wheel into the perfect position which being 6 foot 1 is not always the case in sports cars. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to with the non memory 1 million way adjustable seats. I also love the multi function right dial on the dash. It’s so good! Having the map on so I can see the corners coming up at a glance is brilliant. Again very easy to use. Porsche have done a great job making it easy to navigate the cars features. I like the upgraded headlights that turn with the road too.

Styling:

To my eye it’s a very good looking car. The wheels are amazing and simple so easy to clean. PASM lowering the ride looks just right for me. The rear haunches are mega and look superb when using the wing mirrors. I love the interior and exterior styling. The only thing I plan to change is to add a duck tail wing and Porsche side decals. That’s it!

Driving:

In all honesty it’s too early to tell. Weather is poop and I have not driven it enough. What I can tell is that PASM is amazing and makes a real difference when activated. The PSE is bloody amazing! Manual down shifts in sports or sports plus are intoxicating. The character change of the car between driving modes is simply incredible and a revelation. I love the steering wheel and paddle shifters too. They are lovely and positive to use. Some I have used in the past are plastic and mushy feeling, not the case here. The steering feel is great and direct with what seems to be a perfect weighting. The engine responsiveness is as you would expect from a naturally aspirated engine…. Sharp and perfect. I am yet to drive the car properly and do a launch control and can’t wait to do that. The PDK box is something else, amazingly fast changes, smooth changes when in comfort, aggressive when in sports plus…. It’s an incredible unit. The brake feel is solid and confidence inspiring.

Conclusion:

I am blown away and it is better than my old same age lotus Evora s sr in every way. I simply love it. I just want better weather so I can drive it more! I will put PPF on the sides as that is a chip magnet. My car is ok so want that done before it gets worse. The whole package is just superb. As mentioned earlier, more stuff should be standard and not options. I am very glad I waited for a car with this spec.

If you read all of that…. Well done.

Nice one, you are definitely in the honeymoon period. I remember when I got mine, I had to drive to back up North it attracted attention mostly good but it always surprises people and held its own.

You are bang on about the sound, when I'm driving in groups, I am always asked why it sounds so good, you just have to shrug your shoulders.

I think at first they can feel a little numb and remote but it depends what your coming from, as you get used to it you'll begin to peel off the layers, feel more and enjoy it more and more. The steering will never be what you want it to be but trust me it's leagues ahead of the earlier 991 cars.

It's amusing to hear you mentioning the ergonomics in a positive way, hand brake and heating controls aren't ideal but who cares when the rest of the package is so good.

The lack of spec as standard is frustrating, my Golf R has just about everything Porsche tries to charge for but then they don't produce these in the same volume, it's a different business model and that is reflected in the residuals.

Enjoy it...

Definitely honeymoon period! Just very keen to get it out on some good roads on a dry day.

Not trying to be an ar*e, but it is something that seems to be misunderstood so I’ll say again. PASM is always active, it has a comfort and a sport mode, both of which are adaptive with overlap between the two depending on driving style.

As Daz says, there are a couple of ergonomic failures, but nothing compared to many modern cars with screen based access to everything.

I also find the steering excellent, it certainly doesn’t have the feel of some cars (even earlier Boxsters) but it is very accurate, direct and predictable and to me confidence inspiring.

Glad you have had a positive start to your ownership. The real joy comes when you get on decent roads and get to experiance the handling and engine interactions, a real joy.

Those roads are incredible on a crisp winter morning with the roof down!

oh, hang on…

…sorry…

Haha… roof down is great until that cunning bird slaps you with one on your forehead.

Ha! Reading my one comment there certainly are many ways that could go … all of which are filth 🤣

So I had a Saab 93 convertible at one point. Driving with the roof down, on the M11 just past Loughton and a low flying bird hit a van in front.

It got thrown back off the van roof into the air and then tomb-stoned.

I've still no idea to this day how it didn't end up in the back of that car, which would have been a little unpleasant to have dealt with.

I got a black sack full of rubbish landed on the back seat of my Audi convertible while waiting at a set of lights. Don’t know if it was thrown or rolled off a truck just a gentle “thump” and a “bag-o-cr *p” on the back seat.

We won’t talk about the other M11 roof down incident where a flight into Stansted was being escorted by fighter jets going supersonic and I’d thought the IMS on the previous 987 had gone when the sonic BOOM 💥 kicked in…

No we won’t talk about that…

I will.  Made me laugh.  As a matter of fact, still does.

Nice write up, surprised about your comment on the steering though having come from an Evora.

I did find the steering better than I was expecting (also coming from Lotus) having read some negativity about it though.  The PSE is awesome and really would be a must-have on the next one.

This is my first flappy-paddle car, I was looking for manual initially but glad I got to love with this for a bit. Even in Auto the choices it makes in Sport mode when on a hack are really very good.  Quite magical how the car knows when you're "on it" or "having a rest".

Agreed. I have had a few flappy paddle cars and this is the best box of them all. Steering wise I need to get the cayman on roads I took my Evora on to really see the difference in steering feel. It’s certainly a better built car than the Evora, no question about that.

Paddles really help you focus on the driving and I love them. My Evora was manual but I do prefer a flappy paddle auto car.

Yeah, quality and solidity wise it’s definitely a cut above. Can’t imagine getting a lifting dash panel in the sun here…

Ok so a bit more fun today and need more time to judge the suspension.

The steering however is accurate but not very feelsome. The rack is also absolutely fine but slower than I expected.

The Evora had a faster rack and you can certainly feel more of what the road is doing.
