Delaneycatz
Hi all. Need some advice on how to remove the gear selection cable from the fixing bracket just before the cables attach to the gear box. Stripping down the car is no problem and removing the cables from the gear box where they attach is easy but I can’t work out how to remove the cables from the retaining bracket just before the gearbox connection. Any one undertaken this themselves?
iborguk
I've not done this. Maybe figure 3 in the link below helps ? https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/37-TRANS-Drop/37-TRANS-Drop.htm

Any one undertaken this themselves? Don't. Remove the bracket with the 2 torx bolts instead. Much, much easier 1
Delaneycatz
Thank you both. ☝️Makes life so much easier. It transpires the cables and bracket had a rusted together.

Delaneycatz
Can’t seem to locate the right hand cable into its housing coming off the gear shifter. Anyone else had this issue?

Anyone else had this issue? Have you slid the collar back and turned it 90 degrees to lock? If so, it is the reversal of this once you have the cable in the housing
Delaneycatz
Hi Trooper thats not the issue. The cable isn’t long enough to slip into the connection. If you notice the photo due to the design the thread wont locate into the coupling

If so, take it out of gear
½cwt
I had to adjust that cable to be longer when I fitted the 987/997 shift to my 986. I made sure it stayed in neutral whilst doing it and with the lever locked in place by the green tool.
Delaneycatz
Yep tried that. That’s what I thought first of all.
Delaneycatz
How did you adjust that cable to be longer?
TROOPER88
If this is 100% the correct cable, check the routing of it as maybe you have it a couple of CM's out somewhere
bally4563
Have you got the right length cables 5 and 6 speed are different lengths
Delaneycatz
I hope so. The part supplier quoted the same part number that is in line with the parts catalog and what came off. There is no part number on the cables so I have to hope they are right. I have message them and asked them to confirm

Delaneycatz
Yep that’s what came off and that’s the same part number as what I ordered. I took the new one of the car and measured and checked against the old one, it’s the same!
Boxstclever
They are quite sensitive to how they are routed. is one cable going over the top of the other in the engine bay? maybe worth swapping the way they are routes. It may giver you the extra length you need.
bally4563
Are you sure you have not inadvertently bent the bracket on the gearbox linkage?
Delaneycatz
I did wonder that myself but can’t see how that would effect the cable length due to how it clips on to the gearbox selector and into the gear shift housing
