First sign of rust

It's not uncommon, it's a strike point for debris hitting the car.

I had this on my last car, I sanded off the rusty bit and touch'd the area in with paint using an original Porsche paint touch-in stick which I bought from an OPC.

Looks like you've got it soon enough for just a local repair of minor surface rust, but do take off the arch liner to check behind the returns too.

If you want to do the job once and do it properly, sand it back, paint it with Epoxy Mastic and then paint it with a touch up stick (you won't notice it there). Once dried, stick some PPF on it. Epoxy mastic dries rock solid. I did mine about two years ago and 10k miles (~3000 of those on track) later, it still looks the same as the day I did it.

Don't be tempted to use a bodyshop. They'd do a lovely job but it'll only happen again.

I've got the same issue on my 59K '06.  I've bought various Bilt Hamber products which I'm gonna use; just waiting for the spring weather.  Wheel arch liners off is a good tip.  I've also got rust on all four of my jacking points.  Gonna do that too.

Just had all 4 arches professionally done. The rest of the car is mint so wanted it done properly.  Garage said they were impressed with how little damage there was compared to how they looked. So my advice is to do what I did. First sign of trouble get them done properly.

This is the only course I'd follow. I don't harbour any beliefs that I can do better, more thorough bodywork than a professional bodyshop.

Got this issue on a 2011 987 with 74000k. The above is a good tip as I've just done my near side arch a second time. Thanks Lennym1984

That's a good tip. I did mine about 4 years ago with Kurust, primer, Black stonechip, base coat and lacquer and i think they'll need doing again shortly.

I rubbed the rust spots down, primered them, touched them in and then spotted on some lacquer. I then added some small rubber flaps, for want of a better word. They look quite obvious in the photos as the rubber was new and the flash has also made them stand out but they're not actually that obvious. I do 70, mostly motorway miles a day and I have no more chips. Must have had them on for about 2 years now.

Has anyone tried something like these?

Got to be worth it for the price?

I have tried them in the past - didn't have much success which could be  down to me ! Very fiddly to place correctly and after time dirt seemed to get under them but that could have been the numpty that fitted them 😂

Great idea, are they just fixed with the one bolt for the wheel arch liner?

Don’t suppose you have a template for them?

Thanks 👍

Yeah just fixed with the one screw that is visible in pics. Don't have a template. Just cut the rubber till I thought it looked the right shape. The rubber is 4mm thick. I know they're not brilliant but they do the job.

It’s a good idea & I’m going to have a go at this myself when I source some rubber. Thanks for posting 👍
