box100
On my 2005 987 both front wheel arches have a small patch where the paint has come off and there is a small amount of rust visible (photos attached). Any advice on the best way to repair / prevent getting worse would be appreciated.
iborguk
It's not uncommon, it's a strike point for debris hitting the car. I had this on my last car, I sanded off the rusty bit and touch'd the area in with paint using an original Porsche paint touch-in stick which I bought from an OPC.
½cwt
Looks like you've got it soon enough for just a local repair of minor surface rust, but do take off the arch liner to check behind the returns too. Lennym1984
If you want to do the job once and do it properly, sand it back, paint it with Epoxy Mastic and then paint it with a touch up stick (you won't notice it there). Once dried, stick some PPF on it. Epoxy mastic dries rock solid. I did mine about two years ago and 10k miles (~3000 of those on track) later, it still looks the same as the day I did it. Don't be tempted to use a bodyshop. They'd do a lovely job but it'll only happen again. 1
Johnny5
I've got the same issue on my 59K '06. I've bought various Bilt Hamber products which I'm gonna use; just waiting for the spring weather. Wheel arch liners off is a good tip. I've also got rust on all four of my jacking points. Gonna do that too.
entdgc
Same on my '08 model at 67K miles. Must get around to sorting it!
MickH
Just had all 4 arches professionally done. The rest of the car is mint so wanted it done properly. Garage said they were impressed with how little damage there was compared to how they looked. So my advice is to do what I did. First sign of trouble get them done properly. I don't harbour any beliefs that I can do better, more thorough bodywork than a professional bodyshop.

That's a good tip. I did mine about 4 years ago with Kurust, primer, Black stonechip, base coat and lacquer and i think they'll need doing again shortly. Del_tl1000r
I rubbed the rust spots down, primered them, touched them in and then spotted on some lacquer. I then added some small rubber flaps, for want of a better word. They look quite obvious in the photos as the rubber was new and the flash has also made them stand out but they're not actually that obvious. I do 70, mostly motorway miles a day and I have no more chips. Must have had them on for about 2 years now. 1

Del_tl1000r
Yeah works ok. Would be less obvious against your black.
entdgc
As MickH says my damage is further up but could easily be extended and I think I would paint them in body colour. Nice idea.
Freeman
What is the opinion about the paint that converts the rust into hard surface? Something like: Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint - Smooth Black Finish 250ML : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools and this one Rustins Rust Converter 250ml Clear (toolstation.com)

Very fiddly to place correctly and after time dirt seemed to get under them but that could have been the numpty that fitted them 😂

Don’t suppose you have a template for them? Thanks 👍
Del_tl1000r
Yeah just fixed with the one screw that is visible in pics. Don't have a template. Just cut the rubber till I thought it looked the right shape. The rubber is 4mm thick. I know they're not brilliant but they do the job.
