I’m 6’2” and didn’t have a problem once I purchased some Toms and Puma Speedcats. The thinner sole just made it comfortable enough for me to drive without changing anything else in the car, plus the thin soles helped with heel and toe as well.

Wow. Anyway, good news if you got the payout!
Any bits to cannibalise off it and sell here?
Are you in the market for another, do you need help looking?
It’s at Copart - there’s a nice anniversary tailpipe and some flycatchers that I should have taken and flogged separately!
Thank you, I promised the other half that when this was replaced it would be with something more practical (more seats). I have a couple of things in mind - namely the one engine that I think sounds better than the Porsche’s flat 6… I just didn’t expect to be hunting so soon.

Thanks Caz, thankfully it was just me (on the way back from a breakfast meeting with a client in Oxford. Yes, this has made the decision for us - we’re going to fly to Bologna now. Will get a hire car to abuse - clutch less changes and all that.

Agreed an insurance valuation for mine that has now been written off following a shunt last Wednesday morning. 😢
Only consolation is that the market remains strong and I made a decent enough return on my “investment”

I’ve got mine screwed into the flycatchers and it seems to be a decent enough place without the effort of drilling or a permanent addition.

I have the crios mod on my 986 and I’m not a massive fan of the sound. I think it drones a bit but sounds good pushing on.
I have to replace my back box soon (for MOT) and I’m considering options. Dronebox can’t be much worse than my current one and they sound cheap!

Give mine its first wash in 6 months and treated it to new centre caps, given I can see the shine on the alloys once more.

Mine has a similar issue with no AM(therefore no 5 live). I keep thinking about swapping out for a new one but then the Bose issue kicks in to my memory and reality smacks me in the wallet.
The corroded copper track could be worth an investigation.

What I tend to find with my Jag is that 90% of the time it stays in normal auto mode. The v6 S twin turbo makes so much torque that it goes well enough, if you select the Sport settings it is even more responsive and I tend to use the paddles only on 'special occasions ' with no other traffic about.
You probably have the same view as me ,that manual gear change adds something to the driving experience in a powerful sporty car.
My previous XFS worked well with the auto box but the torque of the diesel suited an auto and meant that driving it in sport mode was a little redundant as the power band was nestled in the regular rev range and stringing it out didn’t do anything more exciting (but helped with Italian tuneups).
My V8 Cayenne had the auto box and I wouldn’t have enjoyed the drive with a manual box. It was a decent GT type mile muncher and the lazy Tiptronic shifts suited the torque.
My 986s has a manual box and I wouldn’t enjoy the drive with the tiptronic. As you mention, the driving profile is totally different and the total control over gear selection and how quick the shifts will be (including blipping on downshifts) adds so much to the enjoyment of the car.

PS4 went on all corners back in August and F1 Autocentres were easily the best price around my neck of the woods. Very happy with them

Great shot though!
Cheers, more shots buried in a link on this thread. Cracking Cobra replica there too, which came out to play at the end of the ‘session’.

Not just ageing well, mine has developed some intelligence and decided to fix itself. I had the common issue with the indicator that wouldn’t stay on if turning right. Somehow, my 986 sensed my procrastination and thought best to fix itself.
How many other cars are awesome enough to take care of their owner like that?

I collected my badge from OPC Swindon today. Tim Jackson in parts is the man you need to speak to.
I opted for the purple and green coloured badge. Well made and robust. Although, i cant find where to place it on my car. I was thinking that one of the front grills will house this nicely, but will have to make up a plate to attach it.
What is this talk about data breach?
Collected mine on Tuesday, the daughter picked the green badge too.
I saw a couple of people have attached them to the carpeted part of the passenger door or the bulkhead between the seats.
I’m thinking mine can live on the garage wall for now.

Today I started to prop up my indicator stalk like a drunk friend when making right turns. Seems like the common issue has raised its head here and I’ve started googling solutions.
Not sure whether to make this my first repair on the car or take it to Lee and ask if he’ll sort - anyone had any decent results from a recent indicator stalk fix?

Hi do you have the standard radio unit for your 986 and if so does it mean you can’t play music when the phone holder is fitted into the cd slot since this would mean the radio face plate would be opened? Or am I missing something
cheers Dean
Hi Dean, I have the CDR23 and the radio operates just fine with the holder in place. I can’t see the screen but that doesn’t matter as I have it in my gauge cluster anyway. Also, if I’ve got the phone in place I just tend to stream music through a Bluetooth adapter from my iPhone and I only ever then need to touch the volume dial.
For £9 it’s a great bit of kit and I don’t worry about damaging my vents when in use. Handy that it also sits tucked away in the glove box whilst not in use
-
I had a similar requirement for my 986 and settled on this one after a vent mounted one just left me wincing for the slats each time I used it.
Seems robust and does the job for not a big outlay.

Took about 5-6 weeks after signing up at OPC Swindon and I had to pop in for the plate surrounds but can’t complain for free. Really like the styling on the car, seems to reinforce the original ‘period’ look.

I ve got one in the Mercedes which I didn't even realise I had until I lifted the boot panel up.
They’re great. Mine forgot to find its way back into the boot when my C250 went back in 2017 and it’s been accompanying me to the shops ever since.

There’s someone on one of the Boxster UK faceache groups hunting for a 986 with a budget of 7k. Worth trawling some of those posts and gauging an interest before letting it go to a company

Changed out a sidelight bulb (3 mins start to finish) and also refreshed my key fob as the rubber buttons had pushed through in the old one.
Two very straightforward jobs but satisfying nevertheless.

V or N tyre speed ratings for a 2000 reg 986

I always go for Y rated tyres as I live in a hilly area and I pick up quite some speed. Don’t want a tyre giving out on me as I fly on to the M4 roundabout coming back from Marlborough.
