Looks good Keith - I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, had mine 7 years and every trip is still an experience.  I’m certain these will be sought after long term, they’re rarer than GT4 and Spyder RSs now.

I hope so, the invoice in the pack shows its price from an OPC as £5k less in 2021…always a good sign when cars appreciate but more importantly when they get snapped up as soon as they bo on sale. Given how it drives its easy to understand why.

    cheers Keith

  2. As promised first pic of the Spyder - collected yesterday. Feels like a very special motor - certainly initial thoughts are that its better than any other Porsche that I've owned and exactly fills the brief of a two seater with the same amount of shove as a 911.

Have nothing but praise for RPM and what a set up and car collection they have - best that I've seen.

    Cheers Keith

  3. I've owned one Gen1 S (and a two 986 S's and one 986) and thereafter a handful of Gen2 S's both manual and PDK. The Gen1 at the time felt a big a big step up to me from the 986 which had a dated feel to the interior but was somehow softer too which had some appeal. All of the 987 Gen2's carried on that trend and felt more modern than the Gen1 but even with PSE the engine didnt have the same amount of character as the none DFI even if it had more grunt. All are good cars but to my mind if you want a keeper and dont want any lingering worries about the engine (no matter how rare the headline problems are) then go Gen2 which are also younger cars and for me it would be the S.

  4. Hi guys, the bloke with the white car on CSC never replied to me but thats OK because this morning RPM called me to say the car I had lost out on was back up as the buyer had to back out - so deposit placed and just need to sort out a collection date now. Thanks for the suggestions.

  5. I've missed out on a couple recently, seems in most cases that once adverts get published the cars are already taken so to avoid that wanted to ask on here if anybody is planning to sell or knows of a car thats about to come onto the market.

    Thanks Keith

  6. Passenger seat is an option but not if you actually have a passenger with you as happened to me some years ago - happily fitted the space saver (not issue using the scissor jack) and then it dawned on me that the rear wouldn't fit the front or rear boot....the missus wasn't exactly keen on nursing a rear wheel and tyre back home on her lap 70 miles away. I refitted the wheel and drove to a local tyre workshop who repaired the puncture - not always an option but that day it was and since then I've carried a tyre repair kit, compressor and gunge in case it happens again. The space saver ended up on Ebay.

  7. i went with a Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB - mine has Bose so needed the optical adapter, bought this and the rest of the fitting kit from Incartec - Porsche 987 and 997 Single/ Double DIN stereo upgrade fitting kit (WITH BOSE) BLACK - (FK-959-SWCB)  £298.33 (each). I bought the DAB aerial elsewhere (Amazon I think).  I bought the pioneer used for about £230 so in all it was just over £500 for everything - my car is a 2010 Gen2.

Not a difficult swap, just takes a bit of time and patience - the result looks fine but the comment about the screen is valid and in very bright sunlight the screen washes out but I dont see a way to avoid that. Sound is OK but generally I use it with Amazon music streaming and the main focus is to use Apple or Google maps (make sure to download the offline maps for your trips to avoid the pain of losing connection in poor signal area's) - the maps work well.

If Porsche produced an updated unit like they have for other models I would probably switch to that even at the exhorbitant price that would no doubt be charged.

  8. Was it outside in the sun when this happened? (yes I know "the sun" is a novel concept at the moment) - mine used to do this when it got hot, two likely causes are the hard drive is on the way out or the power supply. In my case I switched the hard drive to an SSD and thought this fixed it but a hot day say the same issue arise, in my case the Porsche logo displayed permanently then the unit powered off and wouldn't restart. I did consider repair but the costs are silly so I swapped to a Pioneer Android unit around £400 with the necessary adapters etc. Now I have up to date maps etc.

  9. Put the car up onto four axle stands, removed the undertrays to inspect the brake and coolant pipes - all looked very good which for a 2010 car was a bit of a surprise. Sprayed lanoguard onto the underside prior to refitting the trays.

  10. Had my 2010 S for four years in February - the longest that I've owned any Porsche and I've had sixteen of the things so that probably tells me something but not sure what! If I say its a keeper I'll probably end up flipping it within a month so I'll keep quiet. Nothing similar that I would swap for so it would be something quite different.

  11. The Rat Zapper is around £22 on Amazon - having had this problem which resulted in the wiring to my ECU and Fuel guage being chewed on a 981 - the ECU fix wasnt cheap I concur with the advice to first check your garage for anything that may attract them - in my case it was dried dog food as discovered by the Porsche mechanic who range me up to ask "have you got a dog? - because there is about a kilo of dried food stored in the car". Once I removed that the blighters moved on - I did also add an unltrasonic deterrent, who knows if that works but it was cheap and worth a try (I still use one today). They do have a taste for wiring, at the time I also had a Mk1 MX5 in the garage and that was also chewed but I fixed that myself.

    Good luck

  12. Mine is currently in the bodyshop being sprayed satin black - originally red. I did look at hydro dipping and that is viable but after stripping etc worked out around £400, leather is lovely but £1200 and dont be tempted by the Ebay leather retrim kits, all I have read is that these are not fit for purpose. Hopefully my respray option works out well, will collect it tomorrow.

  13. Brakes disks and pads changed and when putting on the offside wheel I noticed a letter marked on the disk surface...it said "L" - I checked the box and that had a small L next to the part number. Yes, they are handed and I'd forgotten so sods law has it that with a 50/50 chance I would get it wrong and I did. At least disassembly was fast and easy the 2nd time around apart from the wear sensors that came from Mintex and seem to be made from pastry - both sides crumbled on removal but luckily the originals where fine so they went back on. Before anybody says "having the internal vanes pointing the wrong way wont be an issue with road driving..." it is to me!

Does the Carnewal make a big difference?    Mine is stock exhaust - and I've come from having a Mustang with H pipes that was VERY loud.   I don't want to go back to that (as I'd avoid starting too early in the morning!) but I would like to make a change that would actually make a decent impact to the noise but not sure that YouTube videos do it much justice or if the Carnewal is the way to go.

I found the Carnewal on my 987.2S to be quite subtle but pleasant sounding, certainly not in your face - the Dansk, that I fitted to my 986S was no different to the stock unit despite being a "sports" exhaust but it did look like an OEM. I wouldnt have a problem using Carnewal again.

    Hi all,

Does anyone have, or know someone with a Sport Design steering wheel available?

In a perfect world I’d like the Alcantara one, but happy just to get one at all.

My car has PDK with Sports/Sports Plus.

    Cheers

These usually appear on Ebay, plenty of PDK's normally and very few manuals. Thats where I would go then send it to Royal Steering wheels for an alcantara retrim, they do an excellent job for circa £200. The wheel I would expect to cost £300-£500.
