Don’t know if it is a inner tie rod, main dealer had the car for 4 days, could not find the cause.🤦‍♀️

  2. A little update, just back from France having driven nearly 2k miles, knock still there but apart from that, the car was faultless. Just looking for suggestions for a good indie who I can take the car to, to get sorted. I live in mid Wales LD postcode, all options considered.

  3. An update on the problem.Collected the  car yesterday, not fixed, they could not find the knock after spending around 6 hrs on the car. They suggested removing the front end to investigate further, which they say involves around another 6 hrs of labour. The technician thinks it maybe a steering rack🤦‍♀️ at a cost of 2.5k just for the rack.  I have a week to decide what to do whilst I’m away.

cruising down to Le Mans, although will be staying outside the town

I’ll be staying outside Le Mans in Chartre Sur Le Loir, 20 minutes below Le Mans.

OPC will plug in and follow the change parts out list.

Most Indis are mechanics before "gold class technicians", thus they can diagnose issues much quicker, correctly  and cheaply.

Not all Indi's are experienced enough on the newer cars in my experience though.

Enjoy those smooth empty roads of France (I'm off there Tuesday)

Where about in France are you travelling too. We are going to Hotel De France Sunday then further South to the Charante and Limoge.

  6. Thanks for the reply’s lads. Picking the car up tomorrow, then over to France on Sunday.🤞all goes ok, then I will have to find a good indi to sort when I get back.

That’s when you need the specialist to be “special” - not just “cheaper”

They acknowledge there’s an issue but can’t identify it.  There should be some accommodation in the amount charged to reflect that in my opinion.

Agree, it wouldn’t be so bad, but I’m going to France at the weekend and wanted it sorted.

There are 2 options as I see it, ask the garage to check the torque on the top mount, seems like the nearside and that would explain why everything else is ok. However, ask for confirmation that none of the bushes are worn on any of the arms, if they aren't playing ball take it to another garage. You don't need a Porsche dealer to diagnose noisy suspension components, and see what they say.

The other thing I've heard about is the fuel tank pads wearing out but it doesn't sound like that.

When I came back from France I will take it elsewhere.

Yet conversely the first garage zero'd in on something definitive - how did they diagnose/reproduce the issue ?

    I think they guessed.

Sounds like the first question is to ascertain if it is safe to drive whatever distance you intend. I had understood that suspension can knock for months, it's annoying but not terminal.

Gutley set up a great map of dealers, not sure where it is. You could find another opinion. Birmingham seems obvious.

Hi Menoporsche they have said it’s safe to drive, so I will have to use it next week.It will be a little annoying but just have to put up with it.

  11. Car developed a knocking noise at slow speed turning into the drive at home. Took to a local independent dealer, diagnosed inner track rod end. No time to fix as he is busy, so took the vehicle to main dealer as they could complete the work, they have said they can’t find anything wrong with car, they can hear the knocking and have spent six hours trying to diagnose the noise with no luck. I am reaching out to the knowledgeable people on here. They say it is ok to drive but I’m going to France on Saturday.

Car is 2012 981 Boxster S with 34,000 miles travelled.

  12. Great part of the world to live. Myself and the wife are planning to move over this year, looking a little further a South, either the Charante it perhaps the Limousin. Visited 5 weeks ago to look at property, stopped at the Circuit val De Viene, lucky there was a bike track day on.

  13. Just back from a six day trip over to France, stopped at Hotel De France on the way down to Ruffec, 5 days driving around the extremely quiet roads around there. Thank God no Lord Drakeford over there.Thankfully I still have some good roads left in Powys.
