Had an Elise from new in 2000 and loved the car, compact, brilliant handling etc. Settled down, married, 2 kids and the car wasn’t being driven. Needed to find cash at a point and said goodbye to the Elise with strong regret. Some years later, had a shocking loss in the family that put things into perspective. Wife and I recognised you live one life so agreed to buy another 2 seater rag top. Hadn’t considered Porsche but having dismissed everything else, settled on my 2008 987s. No regrets whatsoever, wife finds a lot more comfortable than the Elise and a lot more practical. As for me, every time I take the car out for a drive, wash it, fill up with petrol, I still catch my breath and passers-by comment on it, I think it is all the car I need. It’s a keeper. I think the 981/718 has better proportions but I can’t justify to myself, the ratio of more happiness/performance vs cost of 718 GTS. Still miss the Elise though!
