This morning I decided to tackle the quick job of removing the broken rubber front lip on both sides and replace with new ones I got this week.

Quick job my rear end... Took me almost two hours to get the old screws out and replace the lips. At the same time I decided to do the rear wheel rubber lips as well. Left side had a huge amount of dirt, stones and cr@p come out of the  little holes. Manhandled the lips in until they clicked (softly) into place. I noticed that the right hand side side sill corner is a little loose. I think (no, I'm sure actually) the screw that is supposed to hold it at the top (under the wheel arch liner) is absent. Didn't feel like getting the car into the air, take off the wheel, remove the wheel arch liner, fit screw, reinstall everything. Next time I need to take the wheel off I'll just make that part of the plan. You can probably replace the screw without all the drama but in all honesty after fighting with the front lips I would rather take it for a spin in the sunlight and have a non-alcoholic shandy somewhere.

What are the part numbers for the front pieces please, my offside on is missing

There is a chap on 911uk forum who does drilling jigs for properly drilling out these bolts when they shear. You might get it with an extractor if you are lucky, but once you have to drill, the bit will likely slip off into the softer alloy rather than follow the M6 bolt down the correct line.

Thank you, to be honest the sensor is such a tight fit I'm wondering if it's worth bothering.

  3. I picked up two sets of plate surrounds last time I was collecting parts, a week or so ago, so they are available.

If you order number plates from OPC they don’t fit in the plate holders as they include the website address, 😂

  4. Yesterday. Decided to tackle my ABS fault. Diagnosed with iCarsoft as front right wheel speed sensor.

Removed wheel, all looked straight forward, undo 10mm bolt, head sheared off. Sensor virtually welded in place ( galvanic corrosion? ) managed to persevere and break it off in pieces. Needed to use the car so reassembled with the new sensor and fault cleared but nothing but friction now holding the sensor in place.

Removal of broken bolt is a job for another day I think.

  5. The scheme seems to depend on how good your local coordinator is, the lady at Porsche Colchester is very good, badges turned up within a day or so (although I’ve not had key rings) she also emailed the parts department for my number plate surrounds and I collected them when I was there.
The centrally supplied stuff does take time and arrives when it arrives but I have had the magazine (book) through the post along with membership card for my 993, still waiting on the one for my Boxster but it’s only been a month or so.

  6. All done today, bought the service from eBay but turned out the guy was local so he came to me.

fairly straightforward, I gained one mile as the odometer reading had to be entered in kilometres on the laptop and he rounded up. I now also have the trip computer function working again. Very pleased so far, took about half an hour.

  7. My 'New' dials should be arriving this week, I'll need to get the mileage adjusted to match my car. There's a seller on eBay that offers this service but I was just wondering if there are any recommended places where I can send it before I use eBay?

Well the search could be over, I'm negotiating buying the 987  Boxster S. Not seen anything or driven anything like that one last week.

Can you remind us which one ☝️

    Not expensive then

You see brake lines mentioned on a lot of 986/996 (most?) unless they’ve been done. I don’t think they’re expensive to do if needed.
The suspension stuff can be done reasonably too.

As I said previously, the perfect car probably doesn’t exist, an an MOT with no advice would ring more alarm bells to me than one with some fairly simple things pointed out but each to their own I guess.

Well after driving that 987 last night, its definitely a 987, I just need to see if i can get a PPI on the car before I say yes, he was happy for me to arrange that, so doing my homework this morning. If I cannot get it done pretty quick, will have to leave it and look in the Autumn, when car prices may drop. Just phoned Porsche in Nottingham, they do a 111 point inspection for £216, if the condition is good, once you own the car for 90 days they will offer a warranty.

Lovely looking 986, not what you want though?

MOT history is pretty solid too. Must be the high mileage. Will give them a call tomorrow.

WBAC valuation is £3,855 so if he’s paid something like that he’s got a couple of grand margin which sounds about right.

  12. I think you need to decide what model you want, 986 or 987, auto or manual.
what engine, preferred colour etc. And what you want to pay. Your parameters are too wide at the moment in my opinion. You’ll end up driving yourself mad and it will be September/October before you know it.

  13. After going through a similar process recently, I think you have to accept that the perfect car doesn't exist (or at least you could spend forever looking for it, spending hours in time and money) these are all a project to some extent.

Just been to see this one, bodywork is in a bit of a mess, lacquer is peeling off the front bumper, roof is in good condition, however the bodywork around the roof does not sit flush and is sitting below the bodywork, 2 alloys need refurbing, no heated seats, xenon lights need deep polish to restore them. Servicing is sketchy, didnt drive it, clutch felt very heavy ( after testing one yesterday with a brand new clutch, will need looked at) weather was atrocious and vert wet, If the car is still there will take a test drive next weekend. If I can get it at the right price, might insult the guy by offering 6k, would end up being a project thats for sure.

    I quite like that.

Got round to the job dodging the showers this morning, only had to peel back and upper part of the membrane to access the area I suspected of squeaking, the rubber gasket holding the glass to the regulator.  Applied a liberal aerosol spray of silicone lubricant to that and also to the edges where the door card meets the door.  And annoyingly only 1 clip committed suicide so I have 9 spares, they are cheap aftermarket BMW/Porsche ones so lees than £2 invested.

Test drive later will hopefully confirm the squeaking eliminated when I go to fill it up ready for our 5 day trip to IoW tomorrow.  Not predicting too much roof down time currently. ☹️

Do you have a link for the clips please? My drivers door card flaps about a bit at the bottom so suspect there are very few clips holding it on.
