  1. I've had my 2005 987.1 since 2015 (bought a day after my 25th birthday!) and I hope to keep it as long as possible. The sunken cost thing is real with this car - i've easily spend more on it that what it's worth and as others have said, even a car that's five years younger would probably still need all the same bits doing.

I've made my peace with that and hope to continue to enjoy it for years and years to come.

The only think that would twist my arm would be a financial windfall, but with a young family, I can see that that would soon be hoovered up elsewhere!

  2. I've been collating some prices:

Revolution Porsche: clutch & RMS £874 inc VAT

Torque Boxsters: clutch & RMS £1500 inc VAT

Nine Excellence: clutch & RMS & IMS seal £939 inc VAT

Renn Works: clutch & RMS £900 inc VAT

I will update if and when I get any more quotes

  3. The clutch on my 987.1 2.7 5 speed needs doing soon. Can anyone indicate approximately how much this could cost? I will have the RMS seal replaced too as a matter of course and possibly change to a lightened flywheel.

I am based in London but can travel if prices are more favourable.

    Thank you!

I’ve bought the grease and wire brush and had a very quick look under the car when I got home but didn’t see the area that I need to spray, admittedly I was just lying on the ground with my head under the bumper!

After owning a 944 with rusty sills for 8+ years I’m always nervous of jacking up old Porsches but I guess it will make it easier to find so will get the trolley jack out and have another look.

Have a look at the video posted further up.

Thanks, it’s certainly looking like that’s the most likely issue based on comments and the helpful video posted above.  I’m not someone who usually does any kind of mechanical work on my cars but feel like this is something I should be able to do so will give it a go 😀.

Get a can of white lithium spray grease and go to town on it!

    Thread resurrection sorry....

Do you really have to pull the front suspension apart to change a front wheel bearing 😲

Not looking like a DIY job to me!

Just saw this yesterday! Looks like the Porsche workshop manual calls for the hub to be taken off and having watched the video, I can't help but think it would have been a lot easier.

All I have done to my RS60 is change pads to Ferodo DS2500’s and I have a spare set of wheels with R888’s fitted.

Let me know when you are planning another TD.

I will! Likely Goodwood next (again!) but planning on adding Brands GP and Silverstone too. The group Donington trip also!

I believe there is some sort of baffle already in the engine boat. Certainly for Track Days. It will benefit from the extended sump which holds several pints more of oil. I have ordered one from design 911. Also comes with an extended pick up.

I’m sure there are other people out there with more information that will either confirm or correct me if I am wrong.

If you haven’t used your 987 on track, you will love it. It is such a great car that we can’t explore any more than 25% of it legally on our roads .

let me know if you want to see any of my GoPro footage from my 987.

Thanks again for the reply. I saw in the parts diagrams that there was some sort of baffle, but wasn't sure if it was in situ on all models.

I've done three days since July, absolutely bitten by the bug! Have made some light mods to the suspension and brakes but thats it.

Eyeing up a spare set of wheels and some TD tyres for next season however!

Decided just to do the occasional Track day in the 987. Now of course I have bought a 02, 986S which I am upgrading and bringing back to life for Track day use.

The RS60 is sleeping undercover in the garage.  :)

Thanks for the response. I'm considering the sump baffle - do you know if there is one as standard?

M96 and M97 engines have a sump baffle, but as they have a shallow sump (they can be considered in a way to be dry sump) the key for track use is the deep sump as the oil pick up is only on one side of the engine.

And critically, an extended pick up!
