This is how Boxsters excel in my book. Can’t see your pics, just a ? And I really want to see the pics.

I've long been able to upload pictures, using Dropbox to host and then changing the last line of code from dl=0 to raw=1.

This method worked on Friday, then the pictures disappeared on Saturday and now the pictures refuse to upload.

    Anyone any clues?

Taken on a 'newish' iPhone 15, are they suddenly too rich?

Well yesterday, washed it after 1800 miles in 5 days driving (including 500 miles, Tunnel to Grenoble, before lunch on the first day) and a weekend in Nice (wife flew so I was master of my own destiny and how long I did each day). Route Napoleon (both ways, up and down) onwards to Monaco where they just happened to have set up the track up for the E-Prix, so foolish not to do a quick lap......

  3. Quick Google...

Design911, normally a bit more expensive than OPC, but not massively = £370

Breaker, EBay, Douglas Valley (Steve Strange on Ebay) = £110

30 min, including watching YouTube video, to fit.

That is what fixed mine when I had the same issue 👍

    This.

You can get buy the part second hand from one of the breakers, but be careful they come in 2 types (I think), if you buy from  Douglas Valley I seem to remember that they called me to check the part number to make sure you get the right version.

When you take the vent off to get access, be careful when you put the vent back, the vent controls catch and separate, check the vent controls work before you do up the screws.

  5. Good question, drove down to Basel Monday, stayed over night, then headed to Davos, and then onward to Stelvio. So up the steep side and down the more gradual gradient. Definitely an experience, but the road ‘up’ is no drivers road in my opinion. Look’’s great in a magazine, but……

Delighted to have done it in my 23yo 986.

Just waiting for my wife to fly down for dinner(!) so I’ll have to look up road numbers etc later. But I’d definitely say, go up from the Swiss side and down into Italy.

That’s good mileage! I found the 996 sports hard back less comfortable than the 987 seats and these seats on my 986 seem ok. The standard 987 seats don’t look that different from memory?

I swapped the hard back sports seats out of my 986, where they were really uncomfortable, into my 996 (which had standard tombstones, and colour painted the backs and replaced the foam in the back of the drivers seat) where they are absolutely fine, very comfortable, seem like different seats, extra couple of inches of rear travel makes all the difference. Then put Pole Positions in the 986. Which are great and, in my opinion, really lift the cabin.

What did you use to connect the head unit to the existing wiring please?

A professional car audio company! 😉

Sorry. I contemplated doing it myself and indeed was planning to, read up on the loom requirements etc, then decided that because I wanted DAB and external microphone for the 'hands free' ( and because of the number of threads on here and elsewhere on 'fitted my new head unit but nothing heard...' )I would be better paying someone to do it. So I did.

I'm 6ft and I found that moving the seat forward made them more comfortable !

I know it's counter intuitive, but the above is the actual driving position for my lardy ass. The harness covers were to provide comfort when wearing just a t-shirt as the belts were a tad too high with the lower buckets.

I think EDC measured them to be 1 3/4 inches lower than standard.

I've only got new Pole Positions in mine, but again, even with being 6' tall with 32" leg I don't have mine all the way back either, all though I do have the GT3 lower console delete. Did 3300 miles, in two weeks in July, down to southern Spain without an issue.

I would worry that the alu one you're looking at would be uncomfortable, Ok for a show car, but not for sitting in for any length of time, driving and in the winter I'd be a bit worried it would be soooo cold to sit on you'd never take the car out. Unless you never use it in the winter (I know you've got a few to choose from ;-)), but there is something nice about freezing day, bright blue sky, roof down.....but 'down below' might be a bit chilly...

Hi All, new to this platform so i hope this the is the right area to ask the question. I've bought a 99 Boxster on a shoestring budget and would like to get the radio head unit  it back to factory , i know they are out dated and poor by todays standards but i don't like looking at the aftermarket one in there currently! Does anyone know of a working head unit and disc changer with the RCA fittings ? im in South Wales but regularly in Midlands , Corby and Guildford so happy to travel to get one. id really appreciate any help in re-instating the car to the way it left the factory. thanks Stuart.

I've got a CDR-22 (single CD player) in my 986S.

Booked in to be replaced on the 12th Sept, will be putting it up for sale afterwards, £150.

Will throw in the cheap Chinese bluetooth adapter that's currently plugged in to the back of it for free!

I also have the original code card that came with it.

    I live in Guildford.

Awesome. Did you meet the heatwave or avoid it?

Just avoided! Although it was 41deg in Saville, weather was great in Spain, less so once I approached the French border. Had aimed to do the whole thing with the roof down, which I almost achieved, until I got just south of Biarritz, when it absolutely poured down. Fine at 130kmh, although the water does just climb over the side windows slightly and into your face, but if you have to slow down......after 20mins decided enough was enough and went in for petrol and put it up. 10km later I put it down again. Then the same happened in England, but this time on the M25, not worth gambling that I wouldn't be held up there!

Finally got round to fitting mine yesterday.

Went with the FIA seats, Recaro side mounts and sliders, plus the Planted base mount.

Took a good couple of hours to sort, but well pleased with the result. Super supportive and comfy.

I'm glad I went with the sliders, as it would have been difficult to 'fix' in the perfect position otherwise. The seat was in and out numerous times to test fit and make sure everything was aligned. Getting the base mount rear bolts in was an absolute bast*rd, as the sliders partially covered the holes. Got there in the end though.

@allatsea The only issue I have is the same seatbelt buckle problem you experienced - what length one did you go for that worked ? Also how did you deal with the seatbelt light on the dash, if you replace the original buckle. I could just leave it plugged in under the seat, but that's not a great solution ! lol

I'd post a pic but it says 1MB max, and the phone pics are 4MB...

    Ben,

Think these were the ones that finally worked; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125164782758 - I brought the 30cm webbed version.

I also went to my local OPC and brought new Torx head bolts to fix the seats down. The ones that came from Recaro were Allen key headed and not strong enough, severe danger of rounding out.

Genuinely can't remember what I did with the seat belt light, think I googled solution, then just connected it up under the seat; my light doesn't come on and in all honesty not sure anyone needs a reminder now.

  12. Hi Nick,

Mine are; RECARO Pole Position ABE - Black Simulated Leather/Dinamica Black, but were still £1650, each all in. They wouldn't remove Recaro completely, the best they could offer was the small indented logo, which I was happy with. Contemplated the leather, but I don't do a huge milage in it (I've done 18K miles in 7 years, and that includes 1500 miles since Sunday!) and am more than happy with what I got. My interior isn't leather anyway so it wasn't an issue and I've had my steering wheel re-trimmed by Royal Steering wheels in Alcantara, so it sort of all matches up. Don't forget, very, very few will look and think it's not leather, they really won't know. I also decided that if it scuffs up and/or wears quickly I can always replace the covers. It's the seat etc that's the big cost.

Capital Seating. I went to visit, happened to be in that part of the country one day, got a contact and then discussed what I wanted. Very quick order to delivery, I was extremely pleased with the service.

As I said brought one, tried it for a few weeks and then went all in. My logic being that if I didn't like it in those weeks, I reckoned I could sell again on EBay for not a huge amount less than I paid. Contemplated just buying one, but it wouldn't look right.

This trip has confirmed the choice - really delighted with them.

Oh, and I also spent a little while buying new seat belt buckles from eBay, until I got one the right length to fit through and sit up enough so that you don't notice it. The stock one sits exactly in the 'hole' and is a right pain to unclip and slightly digs into your hip (see pic, if you notice in one of the earlier pics the buckle sits exactly in the hole, it was too annoying).

Haven't been on the forum for a little while, but came on this morning for this specific reason. I'm also considering a set of pole positions for my 986 Boxster S. Couldn't believe my luck seeing this post.

I've found myself doing a few track days recently and the Pole Positions would definitely be an upgrade over my current OEM Wing Backs. One of my questions is that do you feel there is a a little more room in the cockpit with the pole positions. With my Sports seats I could do with one more click back, but there isn't enough room. I think this would seal the deal for me.

Hope that you are enjoying them, they look mega.

Yes, they do go back further and give you more leg room. I had OEM Wing Backs in mine, after an hour I'd have had enough and would have to stretch my legs out when I got out (I'm 6'0", 32" inside leg) with these, and indeed the GT3 centre console delete, it's fine. I fitted mine over the winter in anticipation of a trip down to Seville, I'm half way there as I write. Last 3 days I've done 1,300 miles and driven each day for an average of about 7hrs a day, only stopping for fuel and comfort break, max 2 x 10mins stops (I'm on my own!). Leg issue completely gone. As I said in another post, put the Sports Seats in my 996, it has a slightly bigger cabin and allows them to be moved further back, they're fine in there.

A few words of caution. New, they're not cheap, once you've brought all the additional fitting kit, etc. As standard they come with Recaro written in big white letters across the top, but the company that import will delete this and insert a much more restrained version in black, but again, think it was about £100 a seat to do that. I also think the buckets are too much for a daily: lovely to sit in, but getting in and out would start to annoy you.

Anyone fitted the Recaro Pole Position seat to their 986 ? How have you found them ?

Also, how did you attach them ?

My research indicates you can use a Planted floor mount, with Recaro sliders and a Recaro side mounts.

Ideally I want to keep the slide function and ability to use existing 3 point seat belts (With potential for harnesses)

All experiences and ideas gratefully received !

    Cheers

    Ben,

I did this during the winter. Very straightforward, I also had heated pads fitted and wired those in.

I went directly to the UK importer, tried the seat at their HQ, brought one, and 996/986 specific fitting kit, fitted it myself. Reasonably straight forward, instructions were a bit difficult to follow, getting certain bits the correct way up (fore/aft bits) but only took a few hours. Then when I decided I liked it, brought the passenger one and did that, much quicker to do obviously. Then spent a few days staring at the wiring looms and working out what did what and then had a go at that. Took me about a day to re wire both and build a small piece to hide the heating controls in the centre armrest/cubby.  Brought both new, cost me more than I paid for the car 7 years ago......but worth it, I love them. I also paid them to remove the white 'RECARO' from the headrest and just have it in recessed black font. I had hard back sports seats in before. Took those out and put in my 996, which had comforts, those now much more comfortable as the can go back a few more inches than they can in a 986.

Next week driving to southern Spain in it, brought them almost specifically for that reason, the others were to uncomfortable to contemplate such a trip.

If you have a facelift car it should have cupholder at the top of the frame section. I'm not aware of any cupholders that fit the cubby holes. The lower one for a start is angled.

You can buy aftermarket cupholders that fit a single DIN space. Don't. They look cheap and rubbish, avoid. Think I threw in the bin straight from the packaging....
